I may have got this wrong; you say that you use GL4 gear oil. Is this GL4 a Automatic Transmission Fluid? I have had a look on eBay for GL4 and the results come up as being a EP 80W90 Hypoid Oil as used in manual gearboxes and rear axles. Is it the red ATF oil that is used in auto boxes? I am in the ...

Place a piece of fine wire mesh over the hole. That should stop a lot of debris getting in and still allow the air to circulate.

If you reckon that the pump is more noisy there may not be sufficient lubrication in the bio-fuel. To compensate for this you could add 2-stroke oil to the mixture at a rate of 300:1 (it does not have to be exact). Mine does exactly the same totally unpredictable. Unfortunately for me, I have to get mine fixed as the yearly test here (MOT) expects all instruments & lamps to be working or it is a fail.
