Dodgy Distributor
Just recently, the distributor has started playing "not nicely" with moisture. Now I know they generally don't, but now even the smallest little splash requires a liberal application of WD40 to get it back to life! Happened twice on the weekend, once in a bog, and given I have a PTO winch, bit of a ...

Re: PTO winch or Electric
I have a PTO on an FJ and another advantage is that you effectively have a 5-speed winch. If you are winching flat with little drag, you can be tugging at some serious speed. Also, you have a lot more power in a PTO, think of the power output of the motor vs. 5kw out of the electric. Downside is as ...

Try archers auto springs in takanini. They reset my hilux leafs about 1-2inches above standard for about $150 a pair. They sag over time but they can also add a helper spring for extra weight and to help keep their shape. They were really helpfull and took only one day to get the springs back. This ...

Hey all, FJ70 SWB 'Cruiser. A little low and the old leaves are tired. Currently running 33's and want to go to 35's (who doesn't want more clearance, eh?). Reckon I can get away with 2", get good clearance and stay within the rules. Looks like they will generally cost me North of $1k new, so ...

PTO shaft bearing brackets
I bought a second hand PTO from a fella for a 70 series Landcruiser. Turns out that I did not get two vital pieces of kit, the brackets that attach the shaft bearings to the chassis. Photos attached. I have contacted the dude in the hope that he still has them on the chassis and has not sold the ...

Spare tyre choice
Question for you clever fellows! My new (old) little Landcruiser now has a set of Silverstone Extreme directional tyres (I got a magic deal on them). I need a new spare that matches the size (33"). Do I buy a bi-directions mud-terrain tyre or do I buy another Silverstone extreme that when used, may ...

15s or 16s, that is the question
I recently sold the old 80 and bought an FJ70. I still have a set of 35's on 16's from the 80 and got a set of 15x8's running 33's on the FJ. The little red wagon has a fair bit of lift, so suspect that I could fit 35's under the guards and will be trying that this weekend. Question: If I were ...

Been struggling with this for a while now myself. The only problem is trying to find the adjuster through the tiny hole in the drum... Any tips on that? (I know that the hole has to be at the bottom, I have had the drums apart once already)..

Re: Silverstone vs. Maxxis vs. Simes
You set on running crossplys? That would be my first decision now that there are some good open patterns available in radials. (road manners vs tearing out sidewalls) I have another set of road wheels and tyres that I use for the daily commute, so to be honest, road manners aren't really a concern ...

Hi all, I need a spare that is the same size of my off-road tyres (who would have thunk it??!!??)... 16x8, std Japanese setup of 139.7pcd. Offset of 28 at least would be useful. I am not precious about whether it is steel or alloy. If you happen to have one with a 35" tyre on it, so much the better ...

I guess you could probably get a 12V version too, would just need twice the current. Thanks for that.

Tyre inflator to power air tools?
Probably a silly question, but here goes anyway. I have two sets of wheels and change them around as required for off road and on. I use "manpower" to do this task and while not lazy, have been toying with getting an air-powered rattle gun for the job. But, given this will be my only application ...

Re: 80 Series fuel numbers with 33's and fuel pump "tweak"
Bog standard 24 valve, 96. 360,000ks. Admittedly I drive like a freaking nanna, but get between 650 and 750km per tank, depending on the travel. Admittedly use it daily as my commuter and much of that is motorway, but still at peak hour... I keep a detailed logbook and have averaged around 33c/km in ...

35/12.5's on 8" rims
Hi there. looking at a set of second hand Creepy Crawler 35/12.5R16s on 16X8 rims. Manufacturer's recommended rim width is 10". What effect does the 8" rim have and does it compromise on performance (such as, can you lower the pressure as much?).
Cheers!

Mounting of a Winch Solenoid
Hi all, after your advice last time, I went out and bought a winch. I got the Runva from Michael in the end, mainly due to cost. I am working out the mounting of it and the solenoid. Re: Winch....which....winch
For an 80 Series LC you will need a 12V. It has 2 battery s and a 24 volt starter, but winches are 12 v running off the right hand battery. Thanks for that. Mine is only 12V, running one battery at the moment, if I go the electric route will install another battery for it. Cheers for the comments ...
