FS: Faulty R50 Terrano with plenty of new parts.
For sale is a 1996 Nissan Terrano. The water pump on it failed, cooked the motor and cracked the head. I replaced the head and water pump with brand new items, and on its first test drive after the repair, it was still using water and the radiator was bubbling, indicating to me that compression is ...

Re: White smoke on start up, rough idle, losing water....
Update: something is still wrong. On a 10 minute trip to work, I lose about a litre of water. I can only assume the block is cracked. Absolutely gutted.

Re: White smoke on start up, rough idle, losing water....
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I can confirm a blown head gasket and severely cracked head, almost certainly caused by the fan clutch packing up. This weekend I put a brand new head on it, replaced the water pump and thermostat, and blanked off the egr while i had it all apart. The crack in the ...

White smoke on start up, rough idle, losing water....
Hi all. As the title suggests, I've got a few issues with my 96 Nissan Terrano, QD32eti. Over the past few weeks, its started blowing huge clouds of white smoke out of the tail pipe when I start it, and will have a really rough idle until I give it gas to take off and it comes right. Note that when ...

I’d read the wax terrano build, but not that 2nd link you shared. Very interesting! It seems that the bd30 exhaust manifold is a nice flowing shape and another ‘off the shelf’ upgrade.

Turbo vs NA QD32 inlet manifold design.
Hi all. Just doing some boredom induced forum trawling, and ended up reading a few peoples opinions that the inlet manifold off of the naturally aspirated QD32 engines is one of the better inlets Nissan made for a diesel. A google search shows me that the four 'runners' on the NA version curl up and ...

Re: QD32eti injector pump seal kit.
Cheers for the feedback. I suppose I should just bite the bullet and get the damn thing done. I'll pop it off myself, and get a shop to do the recon. Here's hoping it's a fairly straight forward recon job aka. not $2000+......fingers crossed.
Cheers.
Cheers.

QD32eti injector pump seal kit.
Hi all. The injector pump on my QD32eti has started dripping diesel all over the driveway. Would this be the seals wearing out? It has some minor symptoms of being a bit off; small shudder on take off etc, but it's very minor, has been like that for years, and I'm not wanting to throw the money ...

Re: 3.2 pajero exhaust
Yeah worth doing. I'm sure there would be an off the shelf unit you can swap in. I fabbed up a real nice 3 inch exhaust for my 3.2 Terrano. Definitely gave it a bit more grunt, especially going up hills.

Re: Buying advise 97 Terrano Manual
I've had two R50 Terrano's over the span of 8 years. I love them. Both mine were the 3.2 auto's, so not quite what you're looking at, but close. I love the 3.2 engines. Simple things, but they do have injector pump troubles as mentioned previously. My first Terrano started lurching whenever you'd ...

FS: Hitachi HT12-11 turbo exhaust flanges
Hi all. I've had a few exhaust flanges cut to suit an HT12-11 turbo. It's that awkward kidney shape thing, with 5 bolts. Anyhow, cut from 10mm steel, with a bit of extra meat around it to weld to. PLATES ARE BLANK, meaning you'll have to lay your exhaust gasket on it, mark out the holes, and drill ...

Re: TD27T into Land rover series, has anyone done it?
LD28's are 6 cylinder correct? I'd imagine going to a 4 cylinder it'd free up a bit of room long ways.....not sure how the width or depth compares though. I'd imagine you'd have to fab up all of the mounting hardware, as nothing would exist off the shelf. I reckon just hang the new motor in the hole ...

Cool and capable wagon no doubt, but what would parts availability be like? I can't imagine repco or anyone local stocking many pieces for these. I could be wrong, but something to think about.

Re: R50 Terrano auto issue.
Yeah, I think so. Talked to a few people who know their way around an auto, and apparently it only locks up the torque converter once up to temp. Fitting a trans cooler would definitely cause this to take longer, as well as cold weather.

Re: R50 Terrano auto issue.
Ahhh I see. I have heard that from factory they don't lock up the torque converter until something reaches a certain temp. I guess its always gotten up to temp quick enough that I've never noticed it until now, when its faulty. She's coming up 300,000km's, so a bit of wear is expected  I'm ...

R50 Terrano auto issue.
Evening all. I'm having an issue with my auto trans. Vehicle in question is a 1996 Nissan Terrano, QD32eti. Cruising at 100kmh, it normally sits at 2100rpm...just purring along. Lately though, it sits up at 2400-2500rpm, which is a noticeable increase in a diesel! After about 15km's down the ...

Howdy all. I was just wondering....are there any differences to the brakes on a Nissan R50 Terrano between petrol and diesel? I remember a mate upgrading the brakes on his old Navara shop hack to use the v6 brakes because they were a bit bigger. Is there an easy enough upgrade for us R50 plebs? Any ...

Re: R50 terrano
I'm just seconding what you've already heard.....go for either the TD27 or QD32. When you test drive one, pay attention when you change from Park into Drive or Reverse.....If the injector pump is playing up, the revs will leap then settle, and the truck will give an accompanying shake. And when you ...

QD32eti inlet manifold gaskets?
Howdy all. My R50 Terrano is up for a service in the next few hundred kay's. I'm gonna do the oil and filter and a fuel filter. While I've got my hands dirty, I was thinking of whipping off the inlet manifold and giving it a clean out, as well as blanking off all that EGR valve business. Make a ...

Re: More boost with out adding fuel.
Ah yes Ive been looking at giving the EGR stuff the flick. Do QD32's gunk up like the ZD30's do? I've seen the pics of ZD30's absolutely rammed full of oil and gunk build up, all through the inlet manifold, intercooler etc. And Crash, 3 inch down pipe, with a 2.5inch exhaust ya reckon? You wouldn't ...

Yeah I'd imagine a free-er flower exhaust would take a bit of load off the engine, hence a small boost in economy. Exhaust plus a few extra psi should wake the thing up a bit!

More boost with out adding fuel.
Hi all. I have myself a QD32eti R50 Terrano. I'm looking at adding a few basic parts to warm her up a bit, mainly a turbo back exhaust and winding the boost pressure up a tad. Now I'm looking at maintaining it's fuel economy, so I'm trying to get away with not upping the fuel delivery. Is it ...

R50 Terrano 3.2 engine mounts.
Howdy all. I've recently picked myself up another R50 Terrano after missing my old one too much! I had the last ones engine mounts replaced while the injector pump was being overhauled, and it made a HUGE difference to the horrendously rattly idle. Well.....my new Terrano suffers the same fate ...

I got my diesel pump rebuilt by Bosch in Penrose. It was $2500 all up, which included two new engine mounts as mine had collapsed. It was like a new vehicle to drive afterwards. I put it off as long as I could, but when it was done, I wondered why i hadn't gotten it fixed sooner! I think the pump ...

Nah im almost positive its auto / torque converter based. I stand on the gas, revs go up, but I barely move...then THUNK, kicks down a gear and it takes off. Its almost like its stuck in too high a gear, gets fed revs, and doesn't want to kick down. And the smell......

Ughhh really? Im in Pakuranga, Auckland. The auto was rebuilt around 40k kilometres ago.....is the torque converter not part of an auto rebuild? If so, you'd think it would last longer than that!
