Re: Project - Prado engine vs KZN130
So, another fairly significant difference (I wish I'd noticed before the engine was in because as most of you know how much fun it is to remove the turbo) is the dump pipe. The 1993 Surf & 1996 Prado dump pipes are completely different. Good thing is, the flange to the turbo is identical so I ...

Haha, yes definitely snorkel time. Was just about to purchase one at the time of the 'minor altercation with puddle'. Old story, could've would've should've.

Project - Prado engine vs KZN130
My daily driver (weekend toy) 1993 KZN130 Surf had a very minor altercation with a puddle resulting in 1 bent conrod. I spent several months contemplating whether to simply replace the rod and piston, do a full rebuild or just find a second hand engine. I eventually stumbled across a second hand ...

Re: Ridge Ryder 9,500lb winch 12v
yep just don't lose the square nuts that sit in the winch housing where it bolts to the bullbar etc as you can't get a spanner in there if you have to use hex nuts[/quote] Put some silicon sealant around the nuts to hold them in place, makes life so much easier. Specially when working in the ...

Toyota Surf quoted ARB Air Locker prices
Right!! It's time get a locker for my 130 Surf. It's got LSD rear, open front, fixed hubs, IFS & A.D.D. My previous vehicle (Isuzu MU) I put an auto locker in the front. Mostly because of it's poor articulation of the IFS. Was impressive where that thing would go. Only real downside was the self ...

Re: Homemade Hilux/Surf Bumpers
Cool work mate! Out of interest do you have screen capture of the stress points? This is more important than displacement. Design looks good though, and I also love CAD/CAM/FEA. I get to play with our work software to build highspeed centrifugal and roots style superchargers. I'll do a screen ...

Re: Homemade Hilux/Surf Bumpers
those bumpers are cool dude, what program do you use to test strength etc? im looking at making one up for my terrano, obviosly a bit different in the way that they attach to vehicle. I use Autodesk Inventor Pro to model it in 3d and then run it thru FEA analysis to see where the strengths and ...

Re: Homemade Hilux/Surf Bumpers
A couple of concerns I have with the bumpers I'm making. 1) Airflow to radiator, have driven around and temp gauge does not change. Are these Toyotas prone to overheating 2) Visibility to winch rope drum through a Hawse fairlead (synthetic rope), will I be able to see enough to stop rope from ...

Have got some if you need one.

Looking to buy one, torn between another auto locker (which was great but had it's quirks like self centering steering) or an air locker. What have you got there?

Re: Homemade Hilux/Surf Bumpers
Cheers Jay, will try to get my head around the site & work out how to update my profile. Living in Havelock North, Hawkes Bay. Driving a fairly standard 1kz-te LN130 Surf. Putting the bar on it, have a 9500lb winch ready to bolt on and then plan to put a lokka in the front as it is a bit 'soft ...

Homemade Hilux/Surf Bumpers
Don't like the look/design of ARB bumpers (nor the cost), so i thought I'd have a crack a designing & building a bumper that better suited my needs. Still not finished but progressing slowly. The Hilux is getting bars added to the top but might just leave the Surf as is.
