Re: Idle cant go low enough!? toyota 5L-T
I did a bit of research on boost compensators. Found this thread which had a lot of useful info. m Further down the thread there's a good pic of a modified metering rod. I might try the same seeing as I can afford to turn the non-boost fuel down a bit. It's also useful to know that there's two ways ...

Re: Idle cant go low enough!? toyota 5L-T
i think i might still need to give the boost comp a fiddle. at the moment it blows a little black smoke if i floor it from idle with no boost (which is probly perfect) but the top end wants more fuel.
but yea maybe a larger plunger is on the horizon then

Re: Idle cant go low enough!? toyota 5L-T
ideally i want to turn that up a tad more to get an ideal air/fuel ratio. ive had it idling good already by backing that screw off, but it was running too lean.

Idle cant go low enough!? toyota 5L-T
Hey guys, I recently finished my project, and now i have a turbo'd toyota 5L. she's got a shite load of grunt and torque now (will post thread with photos soon) anyway long story short, i had the pump rebuilt, and had the top half of a 2LT pump put on, so its got a boost compensator. I had it ...

Re: Toyota 5L/ 3L oil cooler sandwich plate? Z334 filter siz
just be carefull that you actually have room for it. ie filter doesn't run into steering or chassis. otherwise you will need to do a remote filter setup. the other way is to change to the hiace version which has the filter vertical. also the z9 version is easier to get adapters for. This is for a ...

Re: 2LT surf manifold vs. 2LT hiace supercustom manifold
found this. the letters just regard the turbine side TD04 = 47.0mm in, 40.0mm ex TD04L = 47.0mm in, 41.3mm ex TD04H = 52.0mm in, 44.2mm ex TD04HL = 52.0mm in, 45.6mm ex was speaking to a turbocare in wellington and they usually use HL for 3L and 5L engines. i looked at some maps and a/r for all the ...

Re: 2LT surf manifold vs. 2LT hiace supercustom manifold
yea thought it seemed a bit weird. kinda looked used, or reconditioned or something. possibly a new core made by that brand in a used gt2056 housing. triangle flange doesnt adapt quite so good with mine either. alot of cheap shitty chinese turbos on ebay but these are produced in japan, assembled in ...

Re: 2LT surf manifold vs. 2LT hiace supercustom manifold
clocking the turbo, means turning the compressor housing. but either way that turbo idea is gone. the rebuilder had a look and found cracks in the exhuast housing and bent fins on the turbine wheel. so that was a waste of time... he reckons that the turbine side of those turbos are a little small ...

Re: 2LT surf manifold vs. 2LT hiace supercustom manifold
its been sitting too long and wont turn, well not easily anyway. so needs a re-con either way. they reconditioner is going to take it apart and get back to me anyway. the machining is getting done to shape it to a suitable larger garret wheel so will be as perfect fit as ever hopefully it is ...

Re: 2LT surf manifold vs. 2LT hiace supercustom manifold
according to the cast numbers on the turbine side its off an early 2LT surf. and is water cooled. theres actually two water flanges and one oil. you can see right through from one water flange to the other. i had heard that the compressor housings without "ct20" cast in came out in more modern ...

Re: 2LT surf manifold vs. 2LT hiace supercustom manifold
thanks! manifold turbo flange is square 52x56mm so 2" around the radiator hopefully shouldnt restrict too much. this manifold doesnt have the butterfly like the surf one does. win! hopefully turbos not a chinese one :-s i did find it weird that it just says "toyota B" rather that "toyota CT20"...

Re: 2LT surf manifold vs. 2LT hiace supercustom manifold
intercooler: i put the radiator back in and had a measure. basically theres only 2" of space on the intake side and maybe 2 an 1/2" on the turbo side. that would lead to into around a max front mount size of 600x200 might be a tad restricting, but i think i could just reduce the pipe size on the ...

Re: 2LT surf manifold vs. 2LT hiace supercustom manifold
Heres a pic of the manifold bolted up to my old 3L block. only a couple of bolts holding it on the photo, but all the bolts line up *(as long as you move one of the centre studs.) Yea i think an intercooler would be a good idea, but pretty hard on a hiace :-S. Ill see how i go.. so im thinking now ...

Re: 2LT surf manifold vs. 2LT hiace supercustom manifold
so i had some luck today. after alot of hunting around, and i mean A LOT, i finally found a guy with a 2LTE from a 1991 super custom! woohoo! the manifold bolts up to my block and faces the turbo downward rather than up on the surf, and ive got a mates blown CT20 from a surf bolted up. it fits in ...

Re: 2LT surf manifold vs. 2LT hiace supercustom manifold
Thanks for the info guys! so whats the difference in 2LT(1) and 2LT(2)? are they different blocks? also i forgot to mention i'll be making an adapter plate to fit a T3 turbo instead of the CT20 so doesn't matter too much about which turbo fits. more what matters is if the manifold will bolt to my ...

2LT surf manifold vs. 2LT hiace supercustom manifold
Hi guys. I'm starting a bit of a project on my van. Its a 4wd hiace 1992 with hi-lo ratio and locking hubs, and it recently cracked its head so I'm taking the old smokey 3L out of it and i've now got a 5L to replace it. heres the tricky bit... im turning the 5L into a 5L-T. so i borrowed a surf CT20 ...

Re: hiace 4wd 1kz-te conversion
ok so i had a good look at my drive train. i think the 1 kz is in the too hard basket. before the gearbox connects to the driveshaft it basically has a bolt on extension. (gearbox looks like a limo version of the normal hiace one). that extension connects to the transfer case and also to short ...

hiace 4wd 1kz-te conversion
Hi guys, I have a 1992 hiace 4wd that recently became a crack head. its tempting to buy a new van, but this one has a lot going for it. long wheel base, double sliding doors, lock/freewheeling hubs with hi/lo ratio when in 4wd. so, im thinking of replacing the engine as the existing one ( 3L 2.8 ...
