Re: Mistral TDI SWB buying advise
I was allowing the actual rebuild into the 12-15hrs labour. So if you include the R50 then out of 9 vehicles 3 have failed & one of those with really good Kms on it, so that could be put as a 25<30% chance of failure. TBH if he'd said 6K Id be 90% sold, or if it was a dealer that wasn't selling "As ...

Re: Mistral TDI SWB buying advise
Not driven it yet, maybe Monday, but been goggling a bit more,,, The Pump rebuild seal kit is just $35nzd+p&p on ebay, another post on here suggested that the electronic module possibly doesn't need to be changed and costs $1100<1500, so that's $1355-955 labour, about 12-15hrs so sounds about right ...

Re: Mistral TDI SWB buying advise
Just read a post o here about the pumps which seemed to say that almost half of the pump recon cost is the electronic controller, if they fail on the seals then why not just have the mechanical part / seals refurbished? A few years back the bro in laws 89 diesel Laurel pump failed an seem to ...

Re: Mistral TDI SWB buying advise
Thanks for the reply, Any way of testing the fuel pump, can they be pressure tested etc? When we traded our old Terrano the mech who inspected it asked if wed had the fuel pump done & was surprised not at 280'ks, guess this is the same unit. My concern with paying $7k for it is to me that's dealer ...

Hi all, My Neighbour mentioned the other day he is selling his wifes truck / jet boat tow vehicle, Im wondering if this would be a worth while purchase? I'd be using it as my work hack, 55k each way 4x a week, all open road driving, some shingle, some back road mostly highway, other than this just ...

Re: considering a pajero
So im pretty close to buying an 03 3.2d auto on 208'ks, from a mitsi dealer, asked them about the cam chain & that I'd heard the chain guides need replacing every 60<80'ks, they laughed it off saying they have heard this said but never changed any guides, is it a myth or an actual service ...

Re: Oil around the trottle intake valve on a prado
Cheers, spoke to the local Toyota dealers today, they said just that, they all do it, its not uncommon. The only ways to tell if there is an issue is to either clean it & see how long it takes to build back up (not an option with a purchase) or do a compression leak-down test, also removing the ...

Cheers for that, sounds easy, thought most engines made a right mess if you start them with the filler cap off, or do you mean just loosen it off?
Assume if there is oil in the turbo pipes then its one to avoid yeah?

Re: Oil around the trottle intake valve on a prado
This is a truck I looked at to buy, just had an oil change, looks like its been doing it for a while, wouldn't know if it uses oil & can only really take it for a 10 min drive. so where is this breather pipe so if I go for another look I can check it, should I check at idle or when revving or both ...

Oil around the trottle intake valve on a prado
Had a look at a prado over the weekend an it had quite a bit of oil/diesel residue around the throttle / intake control valve assembly, looked almost like it was coming from where the 90' rubber hose joins the side inter-cooler, is this a sign of anything?

prado running temps
Had a look at a 96 Prado today, just wondered about the running temp, took it for a short drive out of town & it was sitting just under half on the gauge, I was just about able to put my hand on the top hose out of the radiator but it was very hot, is this normal? My terrano runs about 1/4 on the ...

Re: 2005 on petrol pajeros
Thats what I thought, no wonder there so cheap, who could afford to run one at 15/100 min!
Planned to buy diesel but the 3.5s caught my eye as they are cheap, then I read about the GDI problems so that canned that, just wondered about the 3.8s but thats a no go if they slurp like that.

Do the later 05 3.8ltr petrol pajeros have the same fuel system issues that the earlier NM model GDI's did, or any issues of there own for that matter?
Also read somewhere they only do about 15l/100ks, surely not unless thats a towing figure?

if its had any welding or crash repairs done they may ask for an engineers inspection, especially if its of a structual nature.
Check, leaking hoses on steering, all bushes and boots + would be worth getting a brake check done first if you can get it to a Wof station.

Prob limited to d22 price wise, so it reads like any would be ok apart from the 2.5L YD25DDTi or the 3.0L ZD30DDT.
