Re: TD42 RWD
Id say to hell with it and go the whole hog and get a mercruiser big block and mount it up, I remember trying to lift one of those onto a dyno with a 1000kg crane and it struggled- you got best of both worlds - no power terrible fuel consumption and it is like a giant boat anchor

My Vk commy was certed for a carby 308 and an M21 box and I switched to an injected motor and a toploader box
The whole car was certed for everything again even the original certed stuff like suspension , wheels, brakes, steering wheel

Re: Recommendations on boost controller&waste gate
[
that only really works with excessively large turbo's and poor fueling. you could put in double the fuel and reduce the boost in half and it will go 3x as good.
Well a compound turbo set up is not excessively large and and why double the fuel when this will only increase ex temps ...

Re: Recommendations on boost controller&waste gate
Some Old scania trucks had big external wastegates as tough as a tank but I've found tial wastegates although pricey never fail, saying this though why use a waste gate on a td42?i just adjusted the fuel screw to adjust the boost and with my setup it maxed at 30psi and wouldn't make any more boost

Nothing beats dropping the clutch in third whilst stuck neck deep in a big old mud bog , the harder you drop the clutch the funnier the noises, love to see a nancy boy auto do a nuetral drive out of a hole without dropping it's guts everywhere , on a side note my 9 sec escort runs a 4 speed dog box ...

To stop our safari getting damaged on the hard tracks I hammered all the panels in a little so the big luggage rack on the roof acts as a type of slider, we can't wait to get out there as well, I'm gonna hunt out all those moss covered pits that smell like a sewer

Detroit diesel ? Best of both worlds, v8 supercharged and or turboed , sound awesome , can't beat the sound of old motor scrapers screaming around subdivisions , that's my dream conversion if my td42 dies

Not that it's a 4wd or really even close but I own a R32 skyline that I stuck a VH45 in , and being that I made a adaptor plate to fix the standard RB25 box to I can't see why you couldn't use the exact auto to mount it exactly the same and keeping it 4wd, all you need is a good old skillsaw to cut ...

Try 30psi plus all day long on a stock non turbo pump on a stock engine with no heat or lag, still don't know why there are not more compound turbo set ups showing up on these patrols, my one is still getting the crap caned out of it, highly recommend doing this , plus it looks cool and confused ...

Just like to reply that it's still going hard with no oil consumption , managed to crank 40psi out of it and it was almost doing wheelies, only probs so far us it keeps wrecking water pumps, I think mud might be getting in it and stuffing the bearings , I get warranty on them but I'll try block up ...

My patrol still going hard 35 pounds all day long , stock pump , stock motor , no smoke heaps of grunt , pops cvs like twigs and sounds like an earthmover, don't be scared to push limits of stock equipment, good ex temp guage and lots of boost, the primary turbo T28 still feels new after continual ...

Re: Holley or Q'jet?
I have rebuilt a lot of holleys, easy to get kits for but rubbish durability, I had a 750dp on a heavily modified 308 , rev limit 7000rpm and made 400hp at flywheel, got sick if it leaking and bought a Quick Fuel carb 650dp from segedins for $780 5 years ago and never touch it ever! Well we paint all our stuff matt black because polished stuff is just asking for a big tree branch or rock to go through it , even painted the IC on the drag car we run and I'm sure if the paint was gonna cause heat soak from waiting in the staging lanes we would surely notice it.
