Re: sr20 surf buggy
Have had a baby boy so time in the shed has slowed right down but....This weekend Mum & Son went away so I got a solid day and a half. Managed to get my inner guards all tacked in place and made up plates to fix cage in place. A pillar or front hoop what ever you wanna call it mounts right where the ...

Re: Suzuki Build
looks cool mate, always keeps me motivated when I see people sticking at their long term builds. just out of interest what's the measurement from ground to bottom of your lower link mounts?

Re: sr20 surf buggy
cheers mate, I've had to stop working on this and fix my other one, nothing major but keep having troubles with fwh coming loose and on this occasion gone completely, up a river at night, 10min after we had the discussion to turn left (home) or right (carry on). I'm trying to think of the best way ...

Re: sr20 surf buggy
Cheers Mudlva, ill have a bit of a play. Ive tried clamping a thick piece of steel behind panel steel to soak some heat. not always achievable. I will get everything tacked up and then try my hand at tig. It seems to be the way to go and I am a bit worried about putting to much heat into that ...

Re: sr20 surf buggy
Haven't achieved a whole lot of actual progress, just been scratching my head, drawing pictures and measuring bits. as I saw once on TV they call it NVP non visual progress :) I have worked out that i should have 30* steering, doesn't seem to be much but the cutting brakes should sort it. Screen ...

Re: sr20 surf buggy
got back cut off, 355mm shorter. have it roughly tacked in place. Sheet metal isn't very fun. with the wire speed as low as I can get it and the power also as low I'm still blowing holes through it super quick. maybe i need to invest in some gas haha. I'm pretty happy with the shape though just need ...

Re: sr20 surf buggy
got a chance to move into the shed and start looking at ride height and working outbid modification. As I said I want to keep it low. The Sr20 and auto doesn't hang down low so that works in my favour but where i have it resting now i will need to go up 100mm to fit my upper links under body. I'm ...

Re: 1990 surf
Threw it back together on Saturday quickly cause I am itching to go for a drive with it being lower and with the new panhard bar.
Stretched it’s legs to measure shocks and check clearances.

Re: 1990 surf
I decided that kzn130 was to good to part so I sold it complete. I have been busy though, just not on the engine. Finally put a wall on the back and made a tray. 1/2 way through rear mount radiator & winch (winch still running forwards) Lowered it back down to standard height. I’ll piece it all back ...

Re: 1990 surf
Haven't decided on what to run to select gears. Quite like the idea of having a bench seat so we can fit kids in for trips up the river and swap over for mud plug events. Maybe have a few switches on the dash.

Re: 1990 surf
Haven't had much time for the surf over the last few months, threw together a roll bar to stiffen up cab for a trip into Avoca. I've got a shed & house to build first but then it's back to it. Positive from that is I can take time to collect parts and plan the rest of my surf build. I just brought a ...

Re: 1990 surf
Last minute work before moving on Saturday, cut rear of chassis to reduce departure angle and cut door skins up so I can throw away doors rather than drag them down the country. Hopefully now I can fit it in the container with everything else

Re: 1990 surf
:D I was trying to find a build that I was halfway through reading and I stumbled across my thread so i guess I'll give a little update. I have completed my Prado sas, had a bit of fun trying to get it set up so I could do more than 50kph. Not 100% but I can now get 70ish before the death wobble ...

Re: 1990 surf
Got busy in the shed this week and made up a scoop to full the hole in my bonnet, pretty rugged but I'm happy with it, just got to paint it now, does anyone have any advice on painting? I was thinking rub down with 400, couple of light primer coats, rub with 800 then 4 or 5 top coats, rub with 1200 ...

Re: 1990 surf
But more progress recently, I installed a winch, a bit of a hassle changing the bar so I could get the fairlead right forward so the rob doesn't rub on anything. That's done and the winch got a chance to pull a hilux around at the patetonga run the other week. Next job was the intercooler ...

Don't have enough money or skill to continue with the sas for now, but I do was a blown compressor from the building site, so Sunday afternoon I mounted an on board air set up, seems to work pretty good so far.

Re: 1990 surf
Started cutting out shock towers the other day, didn't get to far, got distracted and headed out and did the wires road track, we all made it up to the hut with near stock trucks. Bit of damage and a bit of a motivation to get stuck into my build.

Re: 1990 surf
I have been working on other projects for a while but have finished now it's time to get stuck into a sas. I brought the front of a surf with a coil sprung land cruiser diff in it. Everything's there and the chassis aswell so I can take measurements and see how to brace chassis up.

Re: 1990 surf
Things have been going slow at the moment, life gets in the way of Hobbes. My 4-88 doffs should be here soon. I have a big oil leak. Appears to be from my oil cooler. So if I do need to change that gasket I may as we'll put new extractors on while I have the manifold off. Any other suggestions to do ...

Re: 1990 surf
I spent some time looking around and cleaning today, haven't been for a drive yet but tightened rocker cover bolts. Bad thing is I snapped one. I wasn't even applying much force. I guess I just wasn't mentioned to tighten any further. But I did find that the power steering is also leaking. Not from ...

Re: 1990 surf
Well I got my Wof a few weeks back but now I have a large oil leak. It's always leaked just not this bad. This weekend I'll clean engine and see if I can find where oil is coming from. Hopefully don't need to pull to much apart. Does anyone have advise on common oil leaks? I recently had the cam ...

Re: 1990 surf
Well i have fitted a damaged arb winch bar to the front. It was off a mitzi so took a bit of cutting to get to fit. Just need to try straighten it now.
I have also fitted garden edging flares, I need to find something to use to make some mud flaps then it's off for a wof.

Re: 1990 surf
Good to know, but as the torsions are wound up doesn't that later the cv angles? Or am I misled? I'm not really interested in going any higher at the moment, there's no guard rub so I don't see the point.

Re: 1990 surf
Haven't busted a cv yet but I am well aware of the potential damage so have been trying my best to be gentle. I'm due for a wof and cert so might put ball joint spacers in so I can wind torsions back down to help cv's a bit. Does anyone have any smaller mods I should do now before cert? It's pretty ...
