Just want to say how impressed I am at the sympathetic response from most people in this thread.

As a retired truckdriver, and now full time sea kayaker/birdwatcher/photographer/4x4 guy etc, it's very encouraging to see that we're all on the same page about these issues.

Regardless of which side of the fence you sit, this doesn't do anyone any good.
