Re: 7 Seater options
Thanks for everyones replies.. Well it pretty much seems that manual is out, unless I buy a really high k prado or disco, even talking to a mate who is a die hard land rover fan he has said the discos have a lot of issues. I am not really doing any 4wd stuff, I would like to take the kids on some ...

7 Seater options
Not too sure where to post this so will try here! I have decided to upgrade the (not so) trusty surf and get a new vehicle I have had to do so much work on the surf and it is still just an old 2.4l truck plus I need 7 seats now. Must haves: 7 seats Budget $20kish obviously would prefer less but can ...

For sale Auckland Mechanical 2LT injector pump
I purchased this off a going motor with the intention of using it to practice on for when I rebuilt mine. But I have realised I don't have the time to do it so taking the pump in to injectorrod to get sorted and have this one spare. It seems to be in good condition and doesn't have any evidence of ...

WTB surf alternator - 90 2LT
As above just trying to locate an anternator for my surf, the pully and cooling fan on the front somehow detached themselves and according to the alternator guys it is unrepairable. They have quoted $440 + for a new one which seems a bit steep to me, just posting on here in case someone has ...

WTB LN130 Surf rear doors
I need 2 rear doors for my surf as the current ones have rusted out at the top. I have checked trademe and a few wreckers but I can't seem to find any, does anyone have any idea where I might find some? Prefer the gun metal grey colour which is really common so I guess shouldn't be too hard to find?

advice on seals on 2l-t mechanical injector pump
I seem to have no end of issues with my surf.. The latest issue is the injector pump is leaking.. it appears to be leaking around the side that is labelled thermal wax. I have read lots online about doing the seals with the pump still on the engine. But then lots of people saying not to touch it ...

Re: WTB 2L-T mechanical injector pump
Yeah I plan to do the seals but I have no idea how to do it, I have done a bit of googling and want to try and do it on the truck.. Was hoping to get another pump and take that apart and figure out how to do it before tackling the one on my truck.

WTB 2L-T mechanical injector pump
My injector pump is leaking and I wanted to source another one to play with before I take it apart and try and fix the seals. Or if I can source a good one I might just swap it out.

Re: 2LT EGR and EGT installation questions
That probe is very long, will the bend fit inside the manifold? I will have to do some research and see if it is compatible with the gauge that I already have. I guess another option would be just to blank where the EGT pipe went and then just tap the exhaust manifold near where the turbo mounts. It ...

2LT EGR and EGT installation questions
I have removed the head to replace it and wanted to pull out the EGR system and install an EGT gauge while I am at it. There is an awful lot of vacuum lines around the EGR valve and various sensors etc. I would like to pull some of this stuff out but I am not sure what is actually needed, I know at ...

Re: 2L-T questions - head gasket/injectors
Well got the head off today and the pistons and valves look ok.. But the head has 1 small crack between the valves on one cylinder. Looks like a long expensive road to getting this one fixed!

What is this?
I was in the process of removing the head on my 2l-t and found this floating around under the engine, I am not sure what it is and I don't think that I disconnected it when removing the radiator or starting to take the turbo off.. It appears to be a position sensor of some sort..

Re: 2L-T questions - head gasket/injectors
The other glow plugs have dropped the tips off by what you said as well. Not a good sign. From lots of experience with these, I can tell you it will most likely be in need of a lot of coin thrown at it. I'd be recommending removing the head to look at what damage has been done. Be prepared for the ...

2L-T questions - head gasket/injectors
I tried to remove the glow plugs from my 2L-T the other night and one snapped off in there (probe bit not threaded portion), another 2 plugs look like they are missing the end of them, one looks like it has been missing a while the other looks like fresh damage so maybe happened when I remove it ...

Re: Cold Starting issue - 2L-T surf
This thread has somehow been doubled up... In my other thread I removed the glow plugs, one broke and 2 looked like the ends had exploded on them so that would be part of the starting issue I am sure. Now the head has to come off.. Interesting about the winter diesel, the petrol station I use is ...

Re: Cold Starting issue - 2L-T surf
What is the best way to check for cracks? Can I just check visually? I have the full service history with the truck and the water pump/idlers/timing belt etc are only 20k old so will just inspect them and if they look good then leave them there. Does anyone have a link to a good DIY thread on ...

Re: Cold Starting issue - 2L-T surf
From bad to worse, I snapped one off in the hole and then got 2 others out mostly intact but the ends of both of them look like they are destroyed one looks like it has been like that for a while but one has fresh damage so looks like the head is going to have to come off to get all the crap out of ...

Re: Cold Starting issue - 2L-T surf
Thanks for the replies guys, I grabbed some new glow plugs and in the process of removing it it broke in the hole What a bugger of a thing, all of the threaded portion came out so it is just the tip jammed in the hole presumably held in there by carbon build up.. It is such a tiny tip I am not sure ...

Re: Hilux Surf 2L-T questions
The only issue is both back doors have a ton of rust in them just above the window so I need to replace both of those. Both back doors... sounds like a later model 5-door so would have 2L-TE motor. Engine is definitely a 2L-T it says on top of the engine and on the firewall plate. I can't see ...

Re: Hilux Surf 2L-T questions
looks like someones disabled the egr butterfly setup. however you will probably find it shakes a fair bit on engine shutdown. other than that its a good thing. It is actually quite smooth on shut down so that is good. Hi Ryanjury, that’s a solenoid valve that’s broken there and it's used in the ope ...

Hilux Surf 2L-T questions
Hi all, I have recently brought a surf with a 2L-T in it, I did quite a bit of research so I am aware of the issues they have with overheating but got a really good example at a good price and decided to have a go with it. I have started to rip the EGR system out and have an EGT setup waiting to be ...
