The temp guage has it's own sensor. The ecu runs off a different sensor. Sounds like you may need a new thermostat I haven't seen a sensor fail, maybe with the trans oil running in the radiator before was enough to heat the engine coolant just enough. could be a sensor, thermostat is brand new. the ...

Interesting, Is this before or after the sensor? I have had the temp gauge mod done so if this is the case and its after the gauge then thats my problem?? funny because its only started since putting trans on stand alone trans cooler....??

cheers zukmeista thats a good idea, will try resistor trick first see if that works. just need to know what resistance is on the temp switch when its warm got to be on the net somewhere! no derk i have completely bypassed the radiator as i have a manual radiator fitted. this is how my problems arose ...

update, tested for electrosis, had .4v, which is apparently real bad, anyone know much about this stuff?? flushed system and now just 1.9v, re flush tomorrow and see how it goes

at the risk of sounding like an ass... It hasn't been mentioned but Seized radiator caps won't let the excess pressures even get to the overflow .. Just in case it's one of those missed the obvious situations .. Just trying to help. Hope you get the issue sorted ! I bloody hate overheating issues ...

to keep the problem in context a dodgy head or head gasket wont make welds on an alloy radiator crack or leak Was looking for an answer along these lines, so you would agree with me crap radiator? surely if head was cracked or head gasket the excess pressure would full up the overflow bottle before ...

Right we have the answer, swapped out my ecu with one from wreckers, first drive down the road and all back to normal, bloody rapt!
Will get all capacitors replaced in my one and keep it for a spare.

reset ecu, another diagnostic, came back clean, took it for a drive, came home done diagnostic and still clean even though the problem is still apparent. its got me buggered someone out there must know the answer!

I done the diagnostic check yesterday and got constant blinks meaning nothing is wrong, this was doing it another way with a list i found on a prado site, will try it this way to but what is a SST? just a peice of wire or something in between? cheers

Have checked all capacitors for leaking/expansion, 1 was leaking so that has been replaced today, along with the other smaller one on top board as apparently thats the auto side of the ecu according to uncle google. Still experiencing same problem, will do some more googling and see if theres any ...

speedo is working fine, everything else seems to be fine no dash lights of concern etc. been reading about the capacitors on the ecu, might have to rip that open tomorrow might be a bit of a coincidence. hoping its not the trans...

the fenix radiator has been awesome so far, with old radiator and no trans cooler i would foot flat the old girl up big hills and itd slowly creep into the red on temp gauge. now with the combination of trans cooler and fenix radiator i can floor it up even bigger hills over take people on passing ...
