Re: Correct use of a car trailer...
I've always tied down using the chassis personally. It keeps everything secure. Also make sure you have one end tied forwards and the other end tied backwards, both tied one way will cause it to roll even with brakes on

Oh well they will break off Yep, back on the spare, ruddy great hole in the other tyre. And they are there for a reason, would've broken my ...

Trip from Waikato
Just wondering if anyone in or near the waikato is planning a trip this weekend? I've just got my Jeep back and I'm seriously keen to get out again. It's been about 6 weeks since my last run, I think I've forgotten what mud looks like

Re: First mechanical mission - brakes
I have my Jeep back again, Yay! Felt so good to drive it again. They fitted new seals and a new piston which is good but I'm disappointed because they never checked the other side. So I will be pulling at least that side apart and checking everything myself. Will probably end up getting new ...

Re: First mechanical mission - brakes
Are they towing it with strops? Faulty brakes and not being flat bed towed, I wouldn't have been happy with the mechanic or dealer. Not when it's warranty work. Be very careful and thorough with what they fix. No no, they hired a trailer. I will be thoroughly checking everything when it comes back

Re: First mechanical mission - brakes
Update - It's on it's way to Rotorua, hopefully I will know the verdict by the end of the day. Apparently they had to buy strops just to come and get it, at least they are committed to sorting this out. The mechanic that picked it up said they would probably just put a new caliper in it for me. I ...

Re: First mechanical mission - brakes
Good luck. It's been out of action for over a week and the dealer hasn't even looked at it! I would be mad as hell. Would you be claiming non use of vehicle and having to spend money on alternative modes of transport? Tell me about it! They said they would call early this week but I never heard ...

Re: First mechanical mission - brakes
The dealer is sending a mechanic up on Monday to have a look and hopefully fix it. I have a feeling he will be heading back and ordering parts though. But I have my fingers crossed that he can sort it out for me, I miss driving my baby

Re: First mechanical mission - brakes
This happened to me and two others i know with TJ's, what we did was pulled the pistons out and got the callipers bored out about 1 or 2 mm, helps free up the piston when it gets hot. haven't had any trouble since. Thanks for telling me that. I will look into getting that done once I have the ...

Re: First mechanical mission - brakes
^ I appreciate your worry about self diagnosis, I removed the caliper and took it to see two different mechanics, both of which agreed that the piston is buggered. I'm not too worried how it happened, just as long as it gets fixed And thanks for the follow on advice, I will definitely ask them to ...

Re: First mechanical mission - brakes
I've been told that they have a ceramic piston on these. So we are thinking that the seals were buggered which caused friction which prevented the piston from releasing. It has then basically burnt itself out. When I first noticed the problem, I was headed to raglan and it started shaking like ...

Re: First mechanical mission - brakes
just don't admit to it. Anyways a piston kit could likely be done at waikato brake n clutch or for a bit more at apex and still be less than dealing with jeep if they say you have to pay for it. Assuming there's no odd parts a full caliper rebuild would be less than your quoted price. That is kind ...

Re: First mechanical mission - brakes
Ok, so, no good news unfortunately. The piston has fried itself and I require a new piston and seals. I was quoted $250 +gst from the guys at jeep with a 3 week wait for it to get here from the states. I've only owned it for about 2 months now so it's still under dealership warranty so I've rung the ...

First mechanical mission - brakes

In essence the last two posts are exactly what you want to feel when you drive your vehicle. If it makes you feel good or you enjoy driving it then it doesnt matter if its a daihatsu charade or a full blown hummer. Sometimes its less about the capabilities and more about the fun and enjoyment you ...
