Re: Pajero 2000 LWB recovery hooks
I have been quoted $400 +gst for a local 4wd mechanic to install a certified recovery hook for the front. He informed me due to the 'crumple zone' and the air bag sensors that there is quite a lot of fabrication required - about half a days work. Maybe I need to bite the bullet and get those that ...

Re: Pajero 2000 LWB recovery hooks
When they carried out the test did they use the factory recovery points (two 'U' shapes at front) or upgraded points? Be good to know because the club that I am joining stipulate the factory recovery hooks are not satisfactory for 8 ton strops and would bend or snap off. Welcome your thoughts. Cheers

Re: Okuku Pass - Canterbury
Drove the Okuku Pass a couple of weeks ago - great, relaxed trip. I certainly did not have to be concerned about the Okuku river.
Very scenic. Great trip for a Sunday drive.

Pajero 2000 LWB recovery hooks
I am in the process of joining up with a Christchurch 4x4wd club. The requirements for the club are front and rear recovery hooks. Shouldn't be a problem I thought - I was wrong. The guys at the club are also a bit stumped. Placing recovery hooks on a new generation Pajero (2000) seems to be an ...

Well, if 'Mr ORE ' can drive his mothers corona through, my Pajero and I should have a relaxing trip.

Re: Another rolleston newb
Hi there Ben.
Being reasonably new to this site I'm just feeling my way around. You mentioned that you mainly play around the Waimak.
Do you go further afield?
I am in the process of building up my confidence and getting out-and-about more.

Okuku Pass - Canterbury
Howdy. Looking at driving from Loburn up Okuku Pass, down into Lees Valley and coming out at the back of Oxford. Length being about 98km's. Looking at taking one truck as I understand the shingle track is not overly strenuous. Does anyone no when the Okuku river would be deemed not safe to cross ...

Great to hear from you. It would be great if you could send some info through.
Very keen to see more of the countryside and gaining experience with 4wdriving.
Look forward to seeing the info.
Thanks.

Thanks for all the info.
Have decided on the Spot X Offroading NZ.
This is the most up-to-date and also covers trips that we may do (wife allowing) on holidays.

4WD SouthIsland books
I am interested in purchasing a 4wd trip book that covers all the requirements and detailed maps. I came across this book on Trademe
'4WD South Island 77 Off road Adventures'.
Is this a good book or are there better ones out there to purchase?
Talk soon.

Re: Newbie from Rolleston
Perfect day for it! Reading through the CR4WD website it mentions the club checking over my truck and explaining procedure etc. Would this mean I would not be able to enjoy the trips until after this has happened? Perfectly fine if that is the case. Be good to get out and enjoy this great weather ...

Re: Newbie from Rolleston
Thanks for the note.
Over the last couple of days I sent through a request to the Cant Recreational Club for some info. Just waiting to hear back. I came across them via Google search. Sounds like a very good club.
How far afield does the club travel?

Newbie from Rolleston
Howdy I am a very new 'newbie'. My name is Phillip Johnson and I work as a Laser Operator for a local Christchurch Engineering firm and drive a Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed 3.5 V6 LWB. My 4x4 driving experience is limited but I have completed two Canterbury Safaris organized by the Lions Clubs. Those ...
