Re: 80 Series Hi 4WD noise
I've had a couple of incidences with Aisin hubs where they have been disasembled for some reason or other and then there have been issues once reassembled. Wirring/grinding noise, a bit intermittent, always happened over a certain speed. In stripping the hub down it had been heavily greased, and ...

Re: 80 Series Hi 4WD noise
Classic indicator is fail axle seals as half shaft is rattling around and flogs the seal out Will need to fully strip the hub down to inspect. I would order the bush and fit it anyway as a lot of work and the bush does wear out Yeah right. The swivel hub seals got done about 2 months ago, does that ...

Re: 80 Series Hi 4WD noise
Bronze bush in hub that locates cv is shot Oh yeah? Ill look into that, makes sense because the other day the RH hub wouldn't disengage. I also had to reassemble the LH hub after the mechanics did the swivel hub seals cause it wouldn't spin. They put it together wrong, so maybe thats whats happened ...

80 Series Hi 4WD noise
Giddy lads, I have a 1992 80 series Landcruiser with a manual hub conversion. Lately Ive noticed a whirring noise coming from the front somewhere when I have Hi 4WD selected from the dash (old centre diff lock button) and the hubs engaged. It also does it with the hubs disengaged, but the Hi 4WD ...

1HD-T 80 series Tacho intermittent.
Lads,
Have had the Tacho completely cut out on me a couple of times in my 80, nothing about the running of the engine changes just the rev counter goes to zero. Does anyone know how and where they are hooked up on the 1HD-T?
Thank you lads...

That's what I was hoping! I reckon old mates dropped it on the workshop floor, it's dissapeared underneath the work bench and he's put a filler plug in...Crash bandicoot wrote:see if the filler bung has a the magnet on it.

Gearbox drain plug
Lads,
Just did my diff gearbox and T/C oil but noticed on the gearbox the drain plug is not a magnetic one. Is it meant to be?All the other drain plugs are magnetic. I'm assuming yes but just wanted to check.
Cheers lads.

Re: 80 series lowering advice!
Its all tough dog shocks and springs. Does anyone know if the castor correction bushes are the same degrees for a 4 inch lift compared to a 2 inch? I'm assuming not. Is an adjustable panhard normally used for a 2 inch lift?
Cheers guys.
Cheers guys.

Re: 80 series lowering advice!
Haha yeah no doubt! Yeah like I say it's a sweet set up but just a bit over kill for me. Don't get me wrong I spend a lot of time in the bush hunting, and on the beach etc. but not enough to warrant needing such an aggressive lift. She'll definately get used for what it was built for, by for me it ...

80 series lowering advice!
Gidday guys, I've just bought my dream wagon after years of looking, an 80 series landcruiser. Love it so far. Anyway, it was from a dealer out of Japan, pretty good nic, with a few mods for driving around Tokyo!! It has had a 4 or 6 inch lift (not sure how to tell??) which is cool but for me not ...

Re: Buying an 80 series. Tools required?
Awesome cheers guys. Has anyone heard of getting the big end bearing being replaced by Toyota free of charge if it hasn't been done? I've read a few forums on this.

Buying an 80 series. Tools required?
Gidday guys, Looking at a 1992 4.2 turbo diesel 80 series landcruiser manual, factory lockers, 188000kms. I am flying from the SI to the NI to view. My question is which tools, socket sizes will I need to check the basic condition of the vehicle? Eg. What size are the diff and gearbox/transfer case ...

Re: KZJ78 steering issues
Hey guys, Just an update, checked the pan hard arm bushes (cheers Smurf) no movement up and down, but a lot side to side, so replaced those, huge difference! With the split bushes onto the diff, do I tighten the castle nut up tight? Obviously but then I thought the arm will move around the bushes ...

Re: KZJ78 steering issues
Cheers lads, Yes I definitely agree on the rotors, in fact I remember my old man had the same issues, with new pads and rotors being the fix. Had a quick look at the panhard arm bushes today, seems ok, but will give it a good tweak with a bar. Are the adjustable panhard arms worth getting? As far as ...

KZJ78 steering issues
Lads! Hope all is well. I have a 1994 Prado KZJ78 thats starting to feel a bit sloppy on the road at highway speeds. It seems to have a "gap" or deadspot in the steering where there is no reaction from the steering wheel. It can wander off bumps and require more than normal input from the steering ...

mudmike wrote:no different transfer box, the prado has a big pin 70 series case, means you can run a pto off it.
Ah yes true, so if I purchase a rebuild kit it will be the one for a 70 series landcruiser is that right?
Is that you in the pic mudmike? What sort of flying do you do mostly? Ive just started myself.

Re: KZJ78 Manual Gearbox whining
Lads!! Hope all is well... Just been doing a bit of research between shifts. So the gearbox out of my Prado is the same as a Hilux gearbox?? (R151F) Does that mean the transfer case could also be one out of a same year Hilux if I was to replace? If I was to rebuild myself, are there any special ...

KZJ78 Manual Gearbox whining
Gidday, I am new to the forum, so thanks in advance to all the lads with the seemingly unending wealth of knowledge out there! I have a 1994 Prado KZJ78, which I bought to replace an ageing Surf. I love the truck, very capable. Recently I have noticed a significant whine coming from the gearbox ...
