Cracked Head Photos, Prices, Warranties
You try and buy a vehicle that everyone tells you is reliable and runs forever without any problems and then once you've bought it, you read all this stuff about how it's likely to overheat and crack the head and you think "nah not to me though" and then the next thing you know is you have...

Re: Oily turbo hoses
Is a filtered catch can something you can specifically buy or is it more of a "Blue Peter" job that you make yourself out of toilet rolls and sticky-back plastic?

Cheers all. I've actually just dropped it off at the garage ... Daneo ... did I just see you parked outside that garage? Similar looking ride but had a 4wd upgrades sticker on the front

Why brute force and ignorance is dumb when it comes to fuses
Today I wanted to check for air in the fuel system on my Surf so I carefully read the manual that started with "Disconnect the battery and remove the glow plugs fuse". I found the fuse pretty easily then gave it a pull. Hmm. Not really going anywhere. I tried another fuse and it came out e...

Oily turbo hoses
I was shifting hoses around today so I could get to the fuel injectors on my surf (and then later cracked the leakage pipe so I'm now leaking diesel but that's another story!) and I noticed that inside the big metal hose on top that leads into the turbo, with "EFI turbo diesel" etc. stampe...

Re: Used Cooking Oil in Toyota Hilux?
Go to www.youtube.com and search for "Top Gear: Vegetable Oil for Diesel".
If the British government have put tax on doing it, it must work!! (26 pence per litre tax on top of the 3 pence cost for the vegetable oil and white spirits. Nice)

Re: STOLEN
Which part of the country are you in? There was a mad run of this a couple of years back. People were targeting garages in South Canterbury. They seemed to be pretty professional. Sucks that it's taking advantage of people's trust in their neighbourhood. So many people in rural areas leave garages u...

Re: Range Rover Sport Rock Climbing
Yeah there's some angle in the camera but it's very slight. You can tell by the way the range rover starts to slide on the downhill section that it's bloody steep! I haven't been climbing in the states but I've been climbing on granite in the UK and you wouldn't believe the friction you can get. Sti...

Re: Bit juddery at 60km/h
Driveshafts seem pretty firm so yeah I'm at a loss. Hopefully it's not doing any damage. I haven't been on particularly long trip yet except out to Purau bay and that didn't involve any constant speed at 60km/h. I'll just have to stick to either 50km/h or 80km/h!

Cheers. Yeah it was pretty cool seeing this happen just as we were about to leave. We'd made an earlier rescue but it was a pretty easy one. This one was more of a decent challenge! Wouldn't want to get away lightly.

Thanks Rokhound. There's a lot of info here that I had no idea about and that has probably saved me a huge mechanics fee in the future!
Much appreciated.

It's only in 4WD yeah. Dunno about autolockers! I bought it from a dealers but it doesn't look like the previous owner ever took it off road or modified anything so I doubt it's got any after market stuff on it.

It's an automatic locking one. And yeah I was just driving round with it in 4x4 mode in town to try and figure out what it was doing! I don't usually as I've heard it's not a good idea. Just wears it out does it?

Eh? What's going on with my 4WD??
When I'm in 4WD mode in my '92 Surf, everything's find when I'm going in a straight line or turning slightly. But as I turn more, like to turn into a parking space or do a u-turn, the rear wheels spin in quick, juddering lurches. I think it may just be the inside wheel - if I'm turning right, the re...

Got flagged down by this crowd while at the Waimak. It took three trucks to haul it back up the slope. The scary thing was 4 people had to climb out of it while it was in this position!

Snowy Hills to Flooded Waimak - pics & vids - 9th Aug 08
On Saturday morning in Christchurch, I opened my curtains to see the Port Hills covered in snow so I jumped in the truck and headed up there. The Summit Road was closed off so I went for a wander and took some photos ... and built a snowman. I then had a call from my mate saying he was heading to th...

We were there a month or two ago. I got pretty stuck trying to help a mate out who had also got stuck! I'll leave you guys with the snorkles and proper guys to it. I might have a wander around but I'll be keeping to the drier areas. http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v282/25/125/81433553...
