Re: A frame design
There was a test case in Hamilton on 22 October 2013. It makes it very clear that A framing an non road legal vehicle is illegal. The only way to override that decision would be to take it to High court and possibly court of appeal. If you would like a copy of the court decision I can send it to you...

Re: Sj spring advice
Have seen a few trucks with the ruf mod all slightly different with how the parts were fabricated. Ruf would need a cert i'd expect for a roadie too. Theres a few kits about though ie http://www.zuksoffroad.com/Bolt-On-RUF-Spring-Swap-Kit_p_280.html ZOR have always been awesome to deal with. Low ran...

Re: Sj spring advice
I've had EFS and maxitracs in sj's. EFS were far better. EFS rears were flexier and the fronts actually matched the rears for height without too much lean. Maxis leaned really bad with the springs on the correct sides and the front was considerably lower.

Re: Alloy welding on my Gas Gas in Hamilton
I used supreme sheetmetals in frankton to do some alloy welding on a cracked gearbox. Job was good. They didn't do beer payment type work though unfortunately, just cash. Guy I dealt with was Mark. Got recommended there when I lost my alloy welder contact

Theres a bolt/nut combo on top of the steering box to adjust the amount of freeplay I think. you need to leave a little bit or the vibrations can be terrible try under a half turn each time. Mine didn't take much.

Re: Spacers, More Offset, or Center Flip?
I have had a set of center flipped zuk rims. Offset was massive as a result which was cool but a bit tougher on bearings. You still have a skinny rim at the end of day which can be good or bad depending on tyre sizes, whether its going to be legal/certed etc etc. My brother had the same decision and...

...banging on with the old nissan engines again   I guess the head damage was likely done with the previous owner from poor servicing etc as its now done 3x the kms it did on its original head. they are a Small 4 cyl turbo diesel that only seem to be good for 300-400k before major work is required . I assume its relevant but I've had my 1kz manual hiace since 80thou ks and now its done just over 480thou  Surely the van motors would be more prone to failure with overheating? On top of...

have used maxitrac on a budget and more recently efs as their setup went so well in my patrol. ride is totally different and I'd go efs every time in sjs now even though they're pricier. Phil at force 4 sells efs gear and has always been awesome to deal with.

One star for suzuki samurais. I guess the website wouldn't let them make it a half a star or less
Not suprised about the patrol. Seen some in some serious accidents where the only survivors have been in the nissan. Isn't it just rollover conditions that make them less than ideal??

I bought all the bits from enzed cut it all to length n got a car brake specialist just to crimp the fittings on so it was legit. enzed said they could do non road going stuff but had to go elsewhere for a roadie.

Re: g13a to g13ba cam swap
The sohc g13b crank has a shorter stroke and the cams are ever so slightly different from memory. I suspect you get more duration from the g13b cam hence it revving differently as well as the lower compression. I think the pistons have the same dimensions but one is flat and one isn't with different...

If your just using them to lift the truck they do the same job with the exhaust jack sometimes being better in soft terrain and good if your on your own with the stability often being better. The other jobs you can do with a hi lift however make them worth having and those things you cant do are rea...

Re: First mechanical mission - brakes
just don't admit to it. Anyways a piston kit could likely be done at waikato brake n clutch or for a bit more at apex and still be less than dealing with jeep if they say you have to pay for it. Assuming there's no odd parts a full caliper rebuild would be less than your quoted price.

Re: First mechanical mission - brakes
It could need a new piston or sliders fitted so make sure you can still get around if you have your brakes apart. I've had to rangi it into town with a line clamp on one brake line before because the caliper was worse than I thought.
