Re: 2015 Westcoast Easter weekend trip.
Been a bit busy with painting and work to get anything set in concrete so it's going to be who ever turns up and wants to go wheeling/camping kinda trip. So we get off the ferry and drive to slab creek campsite Reefton and camp out late Thursday night. [Friday] Morning get up at a semi respectable h...

Re: 2015 Westcoast Easter weekend trip.
Right so getting closer now. Been a bit busy with painting the house (That floats) and working (employment is overated!). So I know DB had some suggestions about camping and dates and so did smurf. You guys know the region quite well so I'm really easy when it comes to where we stop for the nights, ...

Sticker man had just had a baby and was redoing his house in prep for the new arrival. Might have to source a new sticker man as I think he will be even busier now.

Re: 2015 Westcoast Easter weekend trip.
I've updated the first post with a poll. Let me know if I've got tracks in the wrong places as I can't remember what difficulty they all are (all easy for the surf 8) ) Check the boxes on all the ones that apply to you so we can gauge who is interested in what and formulate a plan around accommodati...

2015 Westcoast Easter weekend trip.
Who's keen? I'm definitely going. Shiny to club truck. I want to do some of the classics as I havnt been there in a long long time. The tunnels, big river, no name road - cockeye creek, greenland and Chasm if doable. Those are just the ones I can think of and have tabled. So for the club tracks (mos...

Re: Mikes surf spruce up
You can drive it like a manual, well sort of. Going up hills no more torque converter slipping. It will be very useful for towing at lower speeds. Running the 33's my converter doesnt lock up till around 90 and in overdrive. Now I can lock it in any gear except 1st. It pulls a lot nicer when it's lo...

Re: Mikes surf spruce up
So the surf is now certed, wof'ed and rego'ed. Got a last minute wheel alignment from upper hutt tyres (cheers skid) and then gave it a 2000km test drive to the Bay of Islands and back. One little issue with the front hubs where the CV goes through rattling away. Fixed by finally getting some free w...

Anyone know of any tracks around Kerikeri Bay of islands? Just intermediate. A friend has a double cab hilux with some new muddies. Thought I might introduce them to some mud and hills, that is if there is anything around here.

King comercial dismantlers is the place you want to go. They're the main 4wd wrecker there. They're on your way out of Roto just before you head in to Ngongotaha. 07-357 4557. No idea if they will be open tomorrow or not. Failing that, and if you're real stuck, phone performance mechanical in Taupo...

Re: Automatic shifting with torque converter locked up
The lock up clutch in the torque converter isn't very big and not designed to have a large load thru them. Personally I have steered away from using it at all off road. The thought of all the friction material all through the auto and being stuck in the bush puts me off. On road at speed. I use it ...

Automatic shifting with torque converter locked up
I've just done a torque converter lockup mod and the 1km I drove with it it was quite cool and a bit different. So I can lock it in any gear apart from 1st and reverse. Mid range revs in 2nd it was nice and pulled a lot nicer than when not locked. 70km overdrive off it was brilliant, almost like the...

If anyone has a seatbelt from the RR or LR (pretty sure they will swap over) of a surf that would suit a 94. Mine has been caught in the seat lock too many times

Speaking of which anyone have a rear right(prob doesnt matter which side) seat belt out of a 93-95 surf? Managed to ...

That's pretty cool, but seriously a pop top in iceland?? I can understand OZ with shorts, T-shirt and "Thongs" but not in Frrreeezzing conditions. Are you keeping the poptop in yours or swapping it out now she is back? I suspect it's a different kettle of fish here than over there for tour...
