Re: Silverstream firebreaks
Thanks for posting that website, its interesting to read about the work ARAC is doing behind the scenes, and always good to be reminded to tread lightly, and that things can go wrong quickly. Its also quite worrying because it sounds like access to these areas is under threat. I'll second that. The...

Re: Our Saturday trip on Odlins road near Wellington
Hey great video dude - played OK on the mobile too. Was wondering what the music is, some Pearl Jam mix at a guess?
I'm keen to get down to the hut at some stage too and I'd also like to make an overnighter of it circumstances permitting.

Thanks Skid that link answers this thread perfectly. I should have thought to have a look at the ARAC website given the work they've done to maintain access everywhere else.

If he's presenting himself as a "mobile dealer" makes sure to ask if he's a licensed motor vehicle dealer and makes sure it says so on the paperwork. If you're going to pay dealer rates you want the legal protections that go with it.

Re: Silverstream firebreaks
Officially the firebreaks are off-limits to motor vehicles. I think one of the clubs has been trying to get permission to access them for club runs. Having said that I don't think I've ever been up there without seeing a few MX bikes. Every so often the bikes upset walkers or mountain bikers and the...

Sounds like I missed a good trip. I would have liked to come but I'm out of town this weekend. Did you go all the way to the hut? What's the track like?

Congratulations on all the Fs dude. My son and I met up with a group of guys from the forum and went for a drive around Red Rocks. Hey dude. If I were after a 4 door 4WD for $4K I'd probably be leaning towards a Mitsubishi Pajero or possibly a Jeep Cherokee. This is simply because I think these vehicles would be the best bang for your buck in that price range. I'd be very surprised if you could find a decent Toyota or Nissan in...

Heh heh... I never got around to taking a before photo of the main dent I had to knock out so an after photo is probably a bit pointless. I thought I might save the photo session until I do something a little more impressive like build a bull bar or rock sliders or something like that. I've gone fro...

Re: Plasti-Dip, vinyl wrap or something else?
Hi all. Short update: I painted the part of the fender that I repaired with the colour-matched paint I sourced from Total Autobody and was pleasantly surprised with the result I managed to achieve. The only problem of course is now the bit I repaired is the best looking bit on the truck and makes th...

You might find a 2.4 in half decent nick for that money. You'd be very lucky to find a 3.0 that's ok. A factory diff lock on either is very unlikely to be found in that price bracket.

Hey all. Thanks for the tips. I picked up a couple of cans of colour-matched paint from Total Autobody today and I'm going to have a go at that and see what sort of finish I can achieve. Should look better than primer patches anyway. I'm still keen to try refinishing it and maybe going with the two-...

Hi Catalyst thanks for the reply. I've had a look at the vinyl wraps on the market and watched a few of the YouTube videos of people applying them and I think I should be able to do a reasonable job (well better than Clarkson and Co did on Top Gear last night at least). The only part I think might g...

Hey all. I've just been doing a bit of panel work to fix up some minor dings around the front of the Landie-Cruiser. Now I've got some nice straight panels and a lovely patchwork paint finish of repair patches. Now as we all know Murphys Law states in Section 7, sub-clause 3, paragraph 2 "Bodyw...

Hey dude. I've got a KZJ71 auto. I don't know much about the workings of the control system for the auto box on these but they seem pretty well set up for off-road work. In fact I've gone from being a bit anti auto boxes to preferring them for off-road driving (though I'll still insist that until th...

Like Kiwi Terrano said, pretty much all the action on AM CB is truckies on channel 11. I monitor 15 sometimes but it's literally years since I made a contact. If you have a SSB set channel 35 LSB sometimes get's a wee bit of activity. It seems like everyone's been seduced by FM but there's still a f...

Not what one would call a tradesman-like job. Just looking at it makes me (and a lot of others I'm sure) cringe in anticipation of what's going to let go first and the force that it's going to go with when it does. And we know too with that setup that it's a case of when something's going to go not ...

CO2 does give better penetration but when welding thin sheet over-penetration is usually the issue not under-penetration. Argoshield light is the gas you want for thin sheet. At the end of the day welding thin sheet steel like that used for vehicle body panels is a skill that only comes with practic...

Anything Electronic in Nelson did mine for $220 with a 2 year guarantee and a reasonably quick turn around time. Can't remember their phone number but they have their own website so a quick Google will find them.
Might be a bit quicker being they're also in the mainland.

Most of the proper rust converters use phosphoric acid as the key ingredient. I like POR15 but there's other brands that are probably just as good.

A little bit of loose RF (especially HF) can find it's way into the most unlikely places and do the most unusual things. It finds every little bit of inductance or capacitance it can and pops up where you least expect it. When I was saying about making the neons at the servo flicker before I was onl...

Right you are 26 MHz for NZ... Not that I have the CB on very often these days. It's been so long since I've had an AM contact that whenever I do put it on I just leave it on 11 and catch the odd truck coming down the Haywards or on SH2. Like so many I cut my teeth on AM CB and then moved onto SSB r...
