Was good time I went in third group which headed up the mountain We didn't get back till late due to a few trucks popping there beads Good stuff, I meant to introduce myself but didn't see ya again after Sat morning. I did notice some enthusiasm in our group also for running real low tyre pressures...

Ice Busted 2016

Have just been down to Waiouru for a winter run around the army training area organised by Off Limits. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/clhandcock/IMG_7540_zpsonxuk6nh.jpg Stayed in the Barracks on base which, to Rosie's surprise, were not an old corrugated iron shed with wire-wove beds & ...

Re: North Island tiki tour/ramble/yarn/bedtime story/bore

Some nice pics there, there's a lot of fun to be had just poking around up the east cost.

You missed the Motu Rd! Should have diverted down there on the way from Gizzy back to Whakatane. One for next time.

Re: Toyota Hilux 1988 leaf springs ( lift kit ideas )

I don't think there are many options for an 'easyier' 6 inches of lift on any vehicle  Getting some spring packs custom made might be the simplest approach. I've had good results from Archers in Rotorua before but not anything that extreme. Why do you need 6" of lift on an old hilux? They'...

Re: Disposable Welding Gas Bottles - CHCH

Not sure on the economics now but I when I did the numbers filling an owned bottle was much more $$$ than a renter. I worked out that if I was using more than 1 F size Argon bottle per year (which I do usually) renting was the cheaper option. Now I'm not emptying Argon onto various bits of Landcruis...

Re: Disposable Welding Gas Bottles - CHCH

The Toolshed shops sell 2 litre disposable cylinders similar to that for $90. Not sure on pressure/capacity though. You'd only have to go through about 3 a year before it was better value to rent a bottle though. Have you priced up Air Liquide? when I got my TIG a couple of years back I was amazed h...

By the time you have to start worrying about water with a petrol there are a few other things you should have sorted out first anyway (other than a snorkel) so it's not a huge deal. : Yep, it depends on the vehicle, My old SJ413 would chug through water up to the eyeballs as happily as any diesel. ...

Just saw this otherwise would have offered some tips sooner. From Napier, if you want to really hit the backroads go west on SH5 then head north on the Waipunga access on the East side of the Kaiangaroa forest (can send GPS route) This takes you via the Whirinaki & out to SH38 at Te Whaiti, then...

Thanks for the reply and the welcome! :D Terrano is very high on my list, my brother got one, it's great off road. I was also considering a Pajero, these are pretty solid trucks, great off road as well, and some come with a factory rear diff lock. Toyotas are great, but normally a bit pricey. Was a...

Yep, $300+ just for the drive if you take a mate or the missus is pretty damn steep. I don't think I'll be lining up for it every year. The $105 extra each for accommodation & meals is reasonable enough though.

Keep the chainsaw handy. Amen to that. Since a lot of formally organised track maintenance is currently getting put in the too hard basket we should all try & put in a little extra effort when just out for a drive, take another 20 min to not just dig your way around a slip, but turn the water o...

Some top advice above.

Another couple of things to check that can cause or contribute to a wobble are a bent wheel rim or a distorted tyre.

I've got some studs in the shed off the old Prado diff, disc brake though so might be different... will take a pic for you tonight. Failing that wheel studs should be in stock at your local Toyota dealer for only a few bucks each.

Edit: I was wrong about the later upper arms being beefier - they are the same. The lower arms on the 93+ 80 series definitely are stronger though. Good luck with the fix.

If yours is an older 80 I think the upper arms on 1993+ 80 series are stronger, Edit: no they aren't  the lower ones are definitely bigger on the newer models. They should weld back together no problem though.
