From what I've heard its a 5.0L Rover so getting it welded up would be easier and more cost effective.

It is indeed a 4.6 stroked to 5.0l went to see eng recon guy to day ruff price of $2500 to fix the block no promises then test the heads ect ect I think it would blow out dollar wise pretty quick so do I buy another rover and throw the stroker kit in it or do I bite The bullit and swap it out for a ls1 or build up a 383 chev but then how will the hilux running gear like that ? I'm a little put of the rovers after ringing around the rover wreckers and been told on the off chance that they do get a running engine that sell them as parts due to the amount of cracked heads and blocks. The rover 9 times outa 10 was plenty enough grunt for me I do like the idea of a dirty cast block and heads then maby I would spend a little less time watched the temp gauge.

Thoughts ?

Regards
Gareth

LS would be $3.5-$4.5 for an engine complete with coil packs, accessories etc, you still have to adapt it to your trans, are you auto or manual, if you have to stick a chevy auto on the back is there the length for a rear driveshaft and you'll still have to adapt the transfercase onto it, if manual allow another $1k for a flywheel and good clutch that'll lock up nice and tight and put the hp out to the wheels instead of turning into bellhousing smoke :D you'll have to allow for a loom and computer for the LS or can probably reuse the rover one if its aftermarket and suitable for the LS, prob another $500 to $1k to dyno and tune the LS unless you use a factory computer with the necessary vats and bits taken out of it that'll put a bit more onto the bill, will need to re-do the exhausts which isn't a biggie unless you have to make up new headers for it :D and you've still got the problem with the hilux running gear whatever it is trans and or diffs nah they wont be holding up you'll need safari or 9" cruiser stuff under it for basic reliability :D forget about the commy V6 its a couple of cylinders short and forget about a 383 by the time you've built one up and thrown some good heads on it a LS will work out more competitive and comes already fuel injected complete with ample factory horsepower :D unless its time for a major overhaul or rebuild the rover option is looking pretty cost competitive and easy even if you are in for a new set of heads as well, how did the block crack and where did it crack was it overheated, if overheated you'd want to be a bit worried about the condition of the heads as well

Do you need a 5L rover? Could you not go with the smaller motor? I know no one likes to downgrade but a freshened 4L will still go hard.

Its a 4.4L P76 bored with 3.9 pistons in it to make it a 5.0L.
So you could either get another P76 block or a 3.9 block and put the P76 crank into that.

Thanks guys Trials your right on the money its not a 4.6 as i thought its a 3.9 or 4.4. Went to see Howie today skid not worth trying to fix but gave me a lot of good advice pointed me in the right direction so its off to find a block or good 4.6 dont want go any smaller still dreaming of ls1s and lq4s but looks like the rover might live to fight again depending on rebuild price.
