Many thanks to Calvin...... ORE user name "Kbushnz" sent me down a winch fairlead for free, he gave it for free and paid freight from Auck to CHCH and I've never met him :shock:

, that's what makes forum's like this superb, let's all keep helping and giving where we can and the sport is cheaper for all, and knowledge shared results in cash in pocket so here's a bit more progress and maybe some idea's for others.

Bars all fizzed up ready for paint, recovery points completed both hook and eye....too cold to paint here

3deg outside, epoxy needs at least 10deg so will slap a coat on tomorrow if temp gets up

And I think even Bulletproof will agree the approach angle for a winch bar is better than average :lol:

Cheers for all the good comments regards to bar work, was fun to do but time costly, altho cost wise for materials ..$146.00 .....I'd hate to pay someone's labour to make it took me a good 10-20 hrs :lol:

Done some more work on the truck to get it ready for the next couple of competition events down here, pulled out the rear diff as it was only an LSD, fitted a 4 pinion lockright, and slso the rear shocks were too short so fitted some 14" bilstiens I scored off Rob-Mu, I had to make up a whole new adjustable shock mount bar....came up sweet. (sorry no pics cam batt flat)
Went for a skid up the Ashley track this afternoon with Dad...had an absolute ball lthe rear locker works a treat, totally locked front and rear It now goes where you point it

Bar work, suspension etc worked a treat, a couple of adjustments to shock position had it set up dialled in...sorted.
we're ready for the coming events :twisted:

Oh and the front bar no longer has the pristine paint job :lol:

I had some fun here and there.... :mrgreen:

Looks real good Tim, your a not so typical Kiwi now days that can turn their hand to anything, :shock:

, for a Fireman you do some excellent design and build and what i can gather

, it's all self taught. On this site we have been privileged to some professional masterpieces but for me you can't beat the KIWI "can do", in the shed or on the drive.

you're right the "can do" attitude is dying, i'm trying my best to teach my boys :lol:

I love 4-wheeling, family, and welding :twisted:

but most of all I can cook, clean, and burn a bit of metal....allround is king.....
No the other toy is getting used every other weekend ...NO RUST
I hope the little bird that tells me you're thinkin of selling wants to come 4-wheelin real soon is listening as a I'm hoping you'll be there :mrgreen:

Its hard work getting your hands dirty when there is so much tv, playstation, computer ( :roll:

shit maybe thats why I get bugger all done!!) and general indoor type activities to be done.
My little fellas not too interested in the shed etc but is right into his lego so theres still hope for him :wink:

Awesome truck Tim. Hopefully it can tow 2.5 ton of Cruiser one day :lol:

Went in the Hamner mudplug up at pucker park, did pretty well overall, problem at the end of the day with either the igintion module or coil.
Got the Sheffield event in a couple of weeks , the mudplugs are a bit of fun but not really my thing, and after Sheffield I think i'll do the next mod on the list while the US dollar is high

I reckon the 4.7's are the go, and if you find them to low, bang some 4.3 or 4.1 front and rear spools in.

Couldn't agree more Grunta, running the 4.88's at the mo....going 4.1 or 4.3 will only make for stronger pinions :twisted:

won't matter what it goes like in high range because it doesn't matter :mrgreen:

Also ordered one of these yesterday, high vibration unit , is anyone running one :?:

A bit of phoning around on Friday and the cheapest I could get a 2nd hand 5l V8 alternator for was $245 +gst.....is it me or are these people dillusional as to want a 20yr old part is worth???? a brand new spankers was $450, and I for one don't thinks an alternator for any offroader is worth either of those amounts :shock:

Soooo, pull alternator apart, asess problem, brushes and comutator, order new brushes...$5.80, have comutator turned down...$1doz speights....solder $4, total repair cost...less than $30.
I've attached some pics to show how easy the task is....anyone with the can do and a soldering iron can achieve :mrgreen:

Brand new set of brushes ordered from CAS

Cleaned up ready for brushes

Brushes installed in holder...only burnt my finger once :lol:

Again, i'm no engineer or auto sparky but have a go at your own mods/repairs it's just a matter of thinking about it, good luck

Amen to that.

I know it needs brackets made but I ended up buying a new Bosch one, they were about $300 and super easy to replace the brushes, a 5 min job.

Got it up and running today, the $30 alternator appears to be a complete success, coil and wiring all extended and mounted on the firewall (was originally on the back of the engine :roll:

) can now get at it by opening the hood

Motor's purring so hopefully the coil was the issue, will find out this sunday at Sheffield :lol:

Winch wiring well underway with solenoid pack mounted high up and outta the mud behind drivers headlight on a custom mount :mrgreen:

are those optima redtops all they're cracked up to be :?:

Red tops are good but dam expensive if ya cant get them at trade price, one of my (2nd hand) ones has died an the other one is on its way out.
I talked to our century rep yesterday about optimas an he said the yellow tops would be better for a starting/winch battery as theyre more of a combination starting/cycling battery :wink:
