Me too.
Based on this build thread you look like you very much know what you're doing, but in any event I've been researching the 1/4 chop & found this useful guide from an Aus site:

http://www.mudrhino.com.au/Docs/DIY2.pdf

Its for a GQ but same procedure for a WD.

By christ, this is a well engineered truck.

thanks for that, Ive read that before. but a good refresher all the same, i think ill make some changers tho, as i think the rivets they used will be problematic later on. so will spot weld some steel in instead, will extend the wheel arch at same time, will have a crack tonight at it, and see what happens cheers.

nissan sent wrong parts from japan so still no nice gearbox, but put in new verry heavy duty clutch.
Image
new on left vs old on right, lots of clamp now.
also moved some front diffs around

Looks to be larger diameter as well as much larger pressure plate? Is it a td42 clutch? Front diff lsd addition? Or is that a ratio change also?
Cheers,
Nath

yea its a bigger flywheel, but not by much, its all Nissan off the shelf but upgraded h/d. photos are misleading. as the pink clutch was a small pressure plate of a unknown car that happen to fit. I did have a play with using the td42 clutch when I was fitting gearbox. the td42 clutch would fit but at 275mm its a bit overkill, and no pressure to mate to td27t and using the td42 flywheel was not going to bolt up to crank. and had to move the starter too. and was so big and heavy it became a ridiculous idea very quickly.

started 1/4 chop today
Image
decided to cut about where the factory fold line was.
Image
230mm grinder and a saber saw and job done sort of.
Image
start welding in 1.6mm plate to bottom of cut to enclose it all.

Hello firstly must congratulate you on your build very nice... I'm wondering if you have a photo of the 2wd sump conversion you did to increase the diff clearance? mine is very close at this point and thought it would be worth investigating. Thanks

I always meant to build a proper sump but this kind of worked so it stayed lol

the pro's
it bolts on. use 2wd pickup
it will keep ya going until ya make a better one.
it clears the diff for on road duties.

the cons
ya will smash shit out of it if ya follow tom and wehi down the waipara,
its only a 4lt sump and a bit small I my opinion for 4x4ing.
its too close to diff for 4x4ing.
don't forget to use the 2wd dipstick
its not designed for being on angles.

the get around to it fix.
keep ya factory sump and cut into it and shape it so it clears everything then add some wings to bring the sump back to 7 odd litres then make some trapdoors using some old cupboard hinges.

well im here I might as well update a bit. truck is going well been through two wofs now and no problems to date, but have had some cooling problems. radiator started to leak so got that fixed then water pump shit it self. so replaced it with a genuine Nissan one. was looking at the std radiator pipes and wounded if the navara d21 hose would be a better fit as they sit higher on chassis ?. have put on a qd32 intake manifold for more power but im not convinced it did anything. but looks cool also had to re mount the intercooler and in the process of mounting a land cruiser air box.
put some 12v sockets in back for camping will look into mounting a second battery in back at some stage.
Image
also made a fold away table on back on tyre carrier for holding the bbq and whoever else.
Image
Image

might put a roller thingy through it for some extra stiffness.
also added a waterproof led light strip to inside of back door to light up the back when cooking at night or fixing broken stuff.
Image
im impressed with this little light for $30 it works very well. will add a pic tonight of it going.

Yes please, more info on the light, did you wire it back to one of the sockets you put in or to the original light in the back? I like the table, I'm going to put a chopping board on. Brilliant!

the light is led one meter long is inside a alloy c channel got it off trade me of a dude called lighting harmony. rear window wiper has a acc feed so t"ed in to that. mine never had a original light on back door so if yours does, use that would be better. im a bit curious now I've never seen a wd21 with a factory light on back door got a pic ?

Not on the back door, but just inside. Roof light (with on-door-off) switch, but in rear, as well as the one in centre of cabin. Not as ideal as your setup, but could be tapped into for a power source.

That's the one, the rear cabin light. I'm excited about this, I do a lot of beach fishing, 2 small mods here which would really make life a lot more pleasant when I'm out there. Thanks for posting your pics and sharing your ideas.

plated in the speer wheel mount to make use of the normally wasted space.
Image
now it fits my table chains and the disposable gas bottle for the bbq.
Image
ill get around to painting it one day.
also added some extra angle iron to take a Gerry can.
Image
will leave the Gerry can off most of the time as the extra weight might upset the hinges but looks like this.
Image
Image
now to start on the rear bumper as the stock one looks silly with the 1/4 chop. will add some special features tho

brought a Toyota surf air box to put on the truck as its bigger then the small terrano one. first job was to cut it to bits, to make it fit,
Image
then added some 75mm tubing to suit snorkel. then made a new top for it using 63mm tubing. the air box is thin steel and I blow holes every where.
Image
I filled it up with water, and spot welded any leaks.
Image
also started on rear bar. but this as far as I got.
Image
the tow points are 75mm x 10, with 4 m12 8.8 bolts. will start making bar around them.

finished rear bar, and decided to add an extra swing a way to carry a jerry can and a hilift, just to keep bulky items out of truck. its bolted to a trailer hub so will be off most of the time, but can bolt back on when I want to go somewhere that needs more fuel/water.
drilled a hole in corner of bar for stub axle to go thru and braced.
Image
brought some 1.6mm plate, and cut to shape
Image
brought a dimple die and added holes. hummm do ya add holes or remove holes any way, moving on.
Image
had to make a number plate mount and light so also incorporated a overcenter latch to keep swing a way in place.
Image
Image
all done
next project is making a roof console.

good work on the rear barwork mate, not sure where you drive and what sort of terrain but you've got to watch the hilift sticking up so high it makes a big mess of things when you get it hooked up in a tree :x
