The wax terrano

Post by wax »

Ok well here is my Terrano I have been playing with todate
and more to come

This is how I picked her up for $450. he guy couldnt get it going for some reason. I just pumped up a tyre and put a new battery in. started it and drove off
First of all it was around to a friends house so I could get it close to ready fot the road. Some one had been there before me and had primered the bonnet etc I guess it was from the paint peeling off

So it was on the road. more power was needed.
Enter the gauges to moniter the beast ( small beast that is)

Well bigger turbo yay. same size exhaust housing and bigger compressor.
it runs 20psi and really opened it up
Image
home made dump pipe worked well
This will rip along now and very happy with it. May have gone a bit high on the fuel so damn it what to do. Turn it back. not on your life more airflow is needed so enter the qd32 intake manifold

Image
Here you can see the much better approach in the manifold and so the increased air flow

It is about to get a custom exhaust manifold with a water to air intercooler courtesy of toyota and there 1ggte engine.

I have a little bosch water pump and I will run the radiator under the chassis for the intercooler as there is no room up the front of these.

The gear box has let me known of its major disapproval of my modifications and is complaining loudly.
Enter the terrano II gearbox to save the day.
Nissan make two types of gearboxes for there normal cars
The one in the early terrano is a FS5W71C and is alot weaker than they use in the later terrano and also the earlier v6, as well as anything that makes decent power this is the FS5R30A gearbox.
Luckily they run the same transfer case so its a bolt in. well almost you have to modify the cross member slightly unless you get a v6 cross member. Lucky me I did

I have the flange all ready cut for the exhaust manifold and will start that after my body lift as that will change where I can put stuff of course. Body lift coming up. then gearbox swap then more horses in the pen

Yeah, the bigger box is 50mm longer. Front drive shaft will move on the slip joint and i got a slightly shorter rear shaft. 4 low on the selector comes real close to the body too.
I just re-drilled the holes for the cross member bolts
Turbo looks good 8)

Subscribed.

Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

Thanks for the heads up.
The turbo made a huge difference to it. It really pulls hard up top now and gives some people a fright for sure.
This is the intercooler I have going on it. Its a twin entry one but thats no issue I will fix that .

Did you use a v6 driveshaft on it in the rear

I think it was. Smaller in diameter but a thicker wall. get the right parts and it will all bolt up mint :D

The intercooler looks like a R32 or a S14. i have one just like it downstairs that i was going to use but the top mount Terrano 2 (Mistral) was much easier.

The turbo is a c18 turbo so thats a t25 exhaust housing but with a group A compressor wheel. thats a 30 lbs of air so enough for about 320 hp

It also has 360 degree thrust bearings. When I make the new manifold I will put a v-flange on the out let. It will make the dump pipe so much easier to make.

Thanks I will look out for a v6 drive shaft. If not I will just take it into work and cut it shorter in the lathe then weld it up again
The intercooler is an s14 one with the scoop they have from std breathing through the inner guard. I have put a 7 inch fan on it but its really not moving enough air.
Also the intercooler is maxed out and I have a massive pressure drop across it. I would use a s15 intercooler if I was you as they are much thicker and have a heap higher flow. if you want to see a pic of an s15 intercooler I can take a pic of the one I have in the garage

I thought about a top mount but decided that I would go for a water to air for slow moving in the mud where I dont have the air flow. I will use water wetter in it. Its amazing stuff and really helps stuff run cool. My temp barely get above 80 and my oil temp the same

This is the start of the new intake system, plus you see the exhaust manifold flange. I really need another head to mock up on.

I have been working on the body lift kit which I want to fit before the gearbox comes out. Should make it easier to fit.

Here is the body blocks im using. You can buy plastic ones but no thanks I would rather be sitting up on alloy
I bought them cut at 50mm and then spun them clean at both ends and drilled a hole through them.
Its a 49mm lift now.

Peace

Yes the qd32 intake is a direct bolt on. it also has no egr or pressure release valve either. So thats a major plus as well.

If you have a look at the turbo I am using it has a 62t garret group a wheel in it and so should be ok to about 28psi with good flow. This is according to the compressor map anyway.
So with this manifold and turbo it should really start to move some air which will drop my egt,s right down

OK well I have a spare head to work on to help make the turbo manifold up.
I'm not convinced on the intercooler just yet so may change it to a different style but you get the idea.

Ok well here is an update dont you wish Nissan made their manifolds like this for the td27. Maybe they would make a bit more power std then
