A small update... been a slow grind with work so I havnt had as much time on the buggy as I wanted.

Built a dual battery tray. Clamps down two red tops. Possibly not the ideal battery but what I have in the shed.

Center strut is removable to make it easier to get the second battery in

Testing battery fit

Tacked in place. Super tight in here. As soon as the new fuel cell goes in I will have no room left at all

Now I gotta wire up the new winch with a dual battery isolating setup. Soon I will be able to winch hard and not have to worry about there not being enough voltage to run the motor. 8)

Carhartt jackets and whiskey back at camp haha!

I do have a windscreen in the works but nothing photo worthy yet... some folded plate and the guts pulled out of a 40 series windscreen. Going to run lexan.

Mabey heated seats  ...

You can get a heated jacket. Some motorcyclists use them.

Yea I am a bit worried about the scratching but I dont know if I am that comfortable with having glass.... mabey I am a bit paranoid. Im worried that the glass will be a problem in a roll. I like the fact that at the moment I dont have to worry about glass shattering. But I want to try and keep some of the mud out. Lexan was going to be a compromise....

Has anyone had custom glass cut? Is is super expensive?

I got glass cut for the rear window in my bj74 cab chop, the place near twiggs in Lower Hutt got it made for me was $200 cash, they made a balsa wood template sent that away then fitted the window for me for that price

Used to get windows cut for my digger every time I got a new opperator lol
So long as its flat all good.... don't even consider it with a bend!

In logging we use Polycarb/Lexan alot as its the only way to get a good view and safety.... yes it does scratch up but not as bad as it used to
There is a special scratch resistant version for the bush, its not commonly available, think its under licence was advertised in the logger mag
There is also a clearseal cover you can get... stick it on both sides, lasts about 3 to 6 months with the average opperator then peel it off and replace
I've used the covers and they work well, surprised me how well they stood up to the wippers and mud
Now the is a catch if you plan on using Lexan it has a large thermal movement if you plan on bolting it slot your mounting holes

Toughened glass if fitted properly can take a hammering. Without being able to get a good look at the windscreen area it looks like you'd need to make a left and right because of the bars. Not a bad thing if you do break one- only half the cost :? Remember if you have a windscreen then you'd need wipers for the mud/ rain and maybe a heater to demist it.................

Thanks guys yea I had thought about the lexan cover film to make it last longer I will have to ring and see what the price is.

In terms of wipers and such I have a 40 series frame that is a bit stuffed due to rust(shock) but I was going to pull off all the wiper stuff to use in a new frame. I had planned in using that sikaflex type silicon to glue the lexan in to avoid the stresses from bolting it in. If I did make my own frame I wonder how I would run glass?

The frame will sit in front of the 'cage' so it can be one piece. And I plan on making it easy to remove so I can decide whether or not I use it on the day. Even if I leave it at camp to hit a nasty track.

What ever I do I want it to be a fairly simple thing to build... it will be just my luck to leave it on and crunch it...

I made a template of the glass I wanted for the front of my fawdy and got a mate to cut me one (works at metroglass) out of auto safety glass.. twas cheaper than cheap (read free) and you'll be rapt man.. honestly, don't go lexan.. nothing like a clear windscreen when out in nature seein it first hand bud, no craptastic scratches..

make the windscreen like a 40's.. hinged at the base to lay flat on the bonnet and braced down when not wanted or up and in place when ya do.. then no unboltin, yet still on the vehicle mate if ya want it whilst out and about..

Snuck a couple of hours today. 8)

New hook mount

Image

Also bent up a hoop to help protect the front of the winch incase I flip end over end again

Image

Now all I gotta do is drill the winch mount holes and get some cables made up to run from the solenoids to the winch and the winch will be done
