Wilwood High volume Master Cylinders

Postby DMcCready » Sat May 16, 2015 7:44 pm

So... not really the norm round here but My buggy uses a pair of 7/8 Wilwood high volume Master cylinders to run the brakes. They are nothing fancy. They arnt even power assisted.

Im having trouble with my rear setup. No pressure at the calipers. Bled them like normal. Nothing...

I have had a small amount of success by pumping the hell out of the pedal and the pressure would hold but be gone if I released the pedal and tried again

I pulled the master cylinder out and flushed it. Bench bled it and it worked fine. put it back in and had no pressure again. So after checking everything. bypassing fiddle brakes etc and spilling a shitload of brake fluid EVERYWHERE Im non the wiser.

My only conclusion is that the master cylinder is stuffed. If there was a crook fitting or if the caliper seals had gone then they would be leaking fluid. Right?
No pressure and no leaks = bypassing master cylinder?

I feel like an idiot not being able to bleed my brakes but I have been chasing false hope all arvo. I have given up and started drinking haha

Just a dribble of fluid. Tried it at the bleeder and also cracked the t fitting on the rear axle. same result

Nah all steel and braided.

Its not like Im dealing with a spongy pedal... I got nothing. pedal is to the floor. It sucks cos when one master cylinder isnt working I have f all from the other... The two master cylinders are tied together with a balance rod thing

perhaps one of the braided lines has collapsed internally blocking the line, but if your pedal is going to the floor then the master must be bypassing, perhaps remove the lines off the the master, put a small ball bearing into the outlet and clamp in place with a brake nut, master cylinder should go rock hard on the pedal,

Sweet Pedro will give that a go! Any special ideas on bleeding the Master Cylinder? In the past I have just stuck my thumb over the outlet and pumped the pedal and once its starting to draw fluid its all good. Having trouble with this method on this one.

pretty much the method i use is to fill it up and pump the hell out of it, but if you block off the port with a bearing you can use that as a valve to bleed the master up
