Changes to a certed vehicle
Changes to a certed vehicle
On behalf of a mate. Vehicle is certed for a few mods from factory, susp etc. he would like to change engine, so do previous certed mods have to be re checked or does certifier only look at the new engine? Will ring local one tomorrow, but thought I would ask and see if anyone knows FOR SURE

Re: Changes to a certed vehicle
My Vk commy was certed for a carby 308 and an M21 box and I switched to an injected motor and a toploader box
The whole car was certed for everything again even the original certed stuff like suspension , wheels, brakes, steering wheel

Im pretty sure they recheck everything, unless you managed to get the same certifer to do it again.
Bit of a pain especially if the certifers have different interpretations of the rules and make you change stuff thats already been certed.............

Re: Changes to a certed vehicle
New cert of everything as they replace the cert plate. When I did my hilux I got pinge for the crappy engine install and seats although they had complied to the last certifier.
I had to fix everything to the new guys spec's as his interpretations were different to the old guys.

Re: Changes to a certed vehicle
as stated a full re-check the catch is for stuff that was certed some time back is rules change and the re-check is on the up to date rules.... one especially to watch out for is steering mods
Re: Changes to a certed vehicle
so i guess I had better do the body chop & deck and cage this time round. I was going to cert what I had done when done then do another cert in a couple of years when chop etc was done.

Do it all, as the new certifier has the right to reverse a previous certifiers judgement on a modification. meaning anything done on the 1st cert plate maybe not up to par with the new certifier
just assume nothing is certed and go from there. safest bet.
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.

yeah just means it will be off the road for longer. be better bet in the long run I know. gotta save up more $, and find someone to glue the body back together after I have cut it to bits.
