ORE upgrade underway

Postby mike » Tue Jun 03, 2014 3:44 pm

Hi All,

Well it's that time again. ORE is going under the knife. The server is old, the site is old and it all needs to be upgraded.

server:/# uptime
15:34:58 up 1000 days, 20:48, 2 users, load average: 0.67, 0.82, 0.96

Some of you will appreciate the above statistic. The 1000 days shows the last time the ore server was rebooted!

I will try to keep the disruptions to a minimum while I upgrade the core stuff in ORE. I will most likely get the forums and vendor stuff upgraded and then work on upgrading the other bits and bolting them back on as things are completed.

as you were,

Ok I'll compromise, I'll try to keep the speed by keeping it on this version of the software (as it doesnt have any bloat like the new versions do) but I'll change the design so it works better on mobiles and fix up a few issues.

Ill try and add it, not everyone will have that app but no harm in adding it to the site. Will only be the forums though, which is the main bit so that's good.

Thanks, that would be great. I, and some other Android users, mainly use a mobile to access the forums. Mobile web is not fun, Tapatalk makes it easier. Thanks for all the work in advance.

I had two paths for the upgrade to go down and spent two days going down the wrong one  It seemed like the easiest at the time and then I HAD to fly overseas and now I find myself on a beach in Greece

Will take a look at the pm issues as soon as I can.

It's going to be a long long upgrade process unfortunately.

Something has changed.
Also all the threads have changed to 'unread posts'. When I read a post it goes back to showing as 'read' but the main forum page still shows 'new posts' in every subforum after going into them (except the unused ones that haven't been posted too for eons).
No drama, just pointing it out in case its messing with someone else.
Keep up the good work Mike, I'm sure wed all like to be on a beach in Greece at the moment :D

First log in was odd, but after a refresh everything is sweet, a few buttons in different places, but that's all I've noticed so far. :D

Yep since site upgrade I am reading ( well seeing but not reading )other peoples pm's , including yours Mike :) amongst others , so no one needs to feel left out .

I normally click on the link " View active topic's" to read posts , its at this point is says I have a new PM , weather I am logged in or not . If I am not logged in when you click the view message link it says I need to log in . If I am logged in it goes to someones PM page . I am stuck in an endless loop at this point and need to log in again to get to my pm's etc .

Good luck

Chris
