24 Spline Front Diff an Axles

Postby BadCo » Sun Aug 07, 2016 9:28 am

Hey all, broke an axle last weekend and was considering ditching the corse 10 spline in favour of 24 spline if I can find a cheap locker/LSD/torsen LSD, etc.

Anyone know of any laying about?

Otherwise I'll just chuck my spare axle in and be done with it until I can afford a Ashcroft ATB.

Cheers,

BadCo.

if you are a hard wheeler then get ashcrofts and be done with it.. you can still break the 24 spline axles just as easy.. but in the interim.. they would be a better choice if you can get some.. but ashcrofts.. you will not break

Why do you think I'm after a diff? I need to justify the swap to 24 spline, so if I can get a cheap diff then I'll do it.

Ok at the moment I have ten spline axles, 10 spline diff and AEU2522 CVs. I have a spare set of 10 spline axles that I can just chuck in and be on the road again. But I'm looking at options to change to 24 spline, which means new axles and diff. But I can only see it being worth it if I put a 24 spline locker in, too much faffing just to replace an open diff with a open diff.

Sorry I wasn't clearer in the OP.

Where are you?
I've got plenty of 10 spline spares ( axles (front and rear), front hubs, CV's) plus a welded diff if you want to persist & keep replacing them as they break.
In Renwick (near Blenheim)

I'm in Auckland, not really keen on constantly replacing broken 10 splines haha, thanks for the offer though.

Just bear in mind that there is no factory halfshaft the will mate a 24 spline diff to your AEU2522 cvs (24 spline inner 23 spline outer end). You will have to go ashcroft/kam/howat for them. The factory 24 spline front halfshaft necks down just as small as the 10 spline on the cv end. It is 32 spline but tiny. The matching cv also has a shorter output shaft and would need matching shorter stub axles as well.

Aftermarket 24-23 spline halfshafts is the way forward. Much stronger and will allow you to keep the cvs you have (which are the strongest factory cv) and will allow you to fit any 24 spline diff.

Yup, I am aware of this. Cheers.
