Name that part!

Postby Lincoln » Sun Oct 12, 2008 11:07 am

What's this? It's in my front right wheel arch and has two tubes running from the top of it into the engine bay somewhere.

Ah cool. I didn't see anyway of opening it up to check it or anything but then I didn't actually take it off and have a proper look. Guess I'll just leave it where it is then!

Cheers.

Good question. I tried to follow them but they disappear for a bit before they re-appear! I'm fairly sure one of them runs to some electrics and the other has a short blue cylinder plastic thing on it (that's probably some kind of small filter) before running to a thin metal pipe that runs along the edge of the big metal pipe connected to the turbo and then carries on to something underneath the throttle housing.

Make sense?!?! :? :)

Its the Vacuum bottle/reciever used to supply air(under vacuum obviously) to the sliding sleeve for engaging 4wd in front diff, part of std ADD system.

its a vacuum reservior.....it increases the amount of vacuum you have to make the ADD ingage easier.
Years ago when cars have vacumm window wipers you installed them to make them work at a more even pace other wise when you accelerated your vipers stopped.
Without the reservior you might find the ADD wont engage if you accellerating .

Yeah I had an old Falcon years ago with vacumm wipers and they always stopped when you were going up a hill and then they nearly beat themselves to death when you went down the other side
