Hi,
My Jimny had a tick that developed to an engine knock.
A short video of the engine https://youtu.be/DCPoHYkAo6I .
What is likely to be the issue? so far I have been advised it's a rod knock.
What would it cost to repair ?
Rather than send to the wreckers Id rather it goes to someone as a rebuild project, hopefully for a better offer than the wreckers.
Any thoughts /suggestions ?
Thanks
G

Re: Jimny with engine knock.
Hi,
Bit hard to tell from the video but sounds like it it coming from the top rather than the bottom. Maybe timing chain tensioner gone? Either way I wouldn't send it to the wrecker. Worth a reasonable amount of money still and those M series engines are dirt cheap (as they come in swifts also). Quick look on trademe and an m13a out of a swift is only $500 from a wrecker. Would need to swap a bunch of bits from your jimny motor to swift motor but not hard, and so worst case scenario is not that bad.

Re: Jimny with engine knock.
Thanks for that. I'll have a look at replacing the engine.
