Build thread gen 2 poverty pack
Hi guys
Another build thread but a slightly different model pajero
A high roof narrow body
I had never seen one before as a long wheel base only a poverty swb
Pics to follow
Purchased it from the mighty south island ,it came with a new set of 33" yoko geolanders and China steelies along with some rust in the floor and sills
Got it home and started the initial clean out a few vapes ,beer bottles, redundant wiring and sand all came out
I had done a deal with a freind to re nozzle his injectors and set the pressures along with some cash for a set of 5 beadlocks
I stripped the wheels down got them blasted and painted in durapox (great product)
Painted in a aerosol top coat and fired them together
What I didn't count on was the offset of the truck having no flares .... new job on the list doh !

As you can see I have a good 50/60 mm of tyre well out side of the body but that can wait for another day to resolve that issue
Next up my online order showed up for boost ,egt ,water temp gauges and a tidy little pod that fits in where most have an set of 3 gimic gauges
So I wired them in and plumbed the sensor in for the boost gauge (yet to drill and tap the egt gauge hole )
All simple stuff till the freakin birds nest of radio wiring was found haha
Chopped that out and added a really simple plug in to simplify all that and give me what I needed for gauges (illumination, battery feed, earth and ignition)
While I was there I added a newer radio that I had on my tool box for a while has USB Bluetooth etc
Took the time to set the depth of headunit to the facia as the old was was super tacky looking being so far out
Repco had a deal on a nice simple uhf radio so I picked that up and fitted it infront of the gear lever in the cubby hole there
Next up I needed to pull the vinyl flooring up to remove some utter crap wiring that had been run so removed the passenger seat , found a suspention seat base and swapped that in place of the fixed one (hope to keep the wife comfortable)
While the vinyl was up I cut the rusty sill section out and fitted a rust cut I had removed from a wreck filly welded and plugged where needed ,ground back and sprayed a stone chip protector on the length of the sill as there looked to be a decent amount of gravel rash down both sills

Latest purchase was a cheap set of hole made drawers from marketplace
There were in a safari so roughly 100mm too wide
I had a rough idea what I wanted and how I wanted things layed out but it kind of evolved into a but more and an inverter was added as with a camp battery ..oops
The next thing for me to blow out was the bull bar situation
I picked up a $30 plate style bar from the scrappy ex 79 series cruiser
It was way to wide too far off the body but how ever it was $30 so chopped it up and found the center section was able to work but then while looking I found a 8274 so that blew out and ment I needed to get a new section cut and folded (Anomaly offroad did this for me bloody top bloke ! )
So that's where I'm at currently bull bar at the front to be made up and Finnish the rear bar

Re: Build thread gen 2 poverty pack
Very nice to see something a little different from the norm. Good to see another build thread also, I thought I just had no mates here
What's the running gear you have?
Also that rear barwork is something very similar to what I would like to do. Any more pics of that?

I've not quite finished it yet, I wrecked a swb and robbed it off it although having to chop the chassis off the swb as it was welded on haha
I'm mid way through making it work for the lwb had to cut to bits and it would have been easier to make a new one haha
Also had a spare 5 mins while baby was having a play so made up a strop hook for the rear to make life easier and get a reverse/work light up nice and high ,possibly making oading the buggy on the trailer easier ?

Sorry forgot to answer the engine question
2.8 4m40 turbo diesel
Had the 4.9 diffs and the larger size hoping to fit a front lokka for those treacherous pak n save missions haha
Being poverty spec it's non super select so thinking that maybe the gen 1 pto may marry up ?
Not an issue as I feel electric is better for what I'll be doing with it

This looks like it is going to keep ya out of trouble for a while. It should turn into a capable wagon once you are done.
Re: Build thread gen 2 poverty pack
Daily up date for the day
Ran wiring and fitted the reverse light / worlk light to the tail gate tonight
While the door panel was off I decided to fit the slightly nicer plastic trim vs vinyl and card one from factory
Ended up being a bit worse for wear so decided I'll try the heat gun trick from my motorbike days and try revive the plastics
Turned out ok not a 100% prefect but about 90% better than before
Will make some templates for the rear bar mounts and then I can finalize the left side rear corner for being level and inline with the body lines and then triple check my bars are parallel with each other etc
Hope to get bull bar started over the weekend at least the center
Here's a few pics

Re: Build thread gen 2 poverty pack
Oops a bit of a double up !
Anyway last night I wired in the reverse light I was thinking of elaborate systems to wire it in to be able to switch from here there and everywhere but decided shit there's a heated rear window that dosent go anymore so I tested the power supply and found that it worked so tapped it in there and waaa laa
Done !
Tonight will be the 2nd night of coming up with brackets I like for the rear bar fixing also on dad duties while the wife's at work so we will see how that goes
Cheers

Side brackets for the center/ winch plate
Tacked in place
79 series side wings attached needing to be cut down
Cut down will add a side plate and possibly a brace within it to stop it flexing into the guard upon a good hit / rub

Re: Build thread gen 2 poverty pack
Achieved a bit this weekend around baby duties !
Got the rear bar all welded up and then this evening I primed it nice to see it one colour again and kind of taking shape
Tempted to weld some 2mm in round the tail light area to hide the body a bit as it looks a bit rude
Also chopped the 79 series bull bar hoops down to size and tacked the top in place
Got a bit late to make noise so couldn't cut the side hoops/ eyebrows down but will attack that Wednesday
I chasing some rear lift springs for the wagon ideally plus 50mm and around 60kg constant weight in the boot with draws and general junk

Re: Build thread gen 2 poverty pack
Brought a 3.5 inch snorkle kit off max fabrication and some extra elbows etc
Looks like it should work great comes with a cool honey comb cap for the end to stop leaves etc getting in the air box
Also waiting on my pod filter to show up I've got a foam 60mm one on the way it looks like I can run it within the factory airbox to help it breath a little more than the big oval paper jobby that's full of crud (yes I could replace but I am planning in squeezing every last free (ish) hp from this 90s whale )

Re: Build thread gen 2 poverty pack
Photos won't seem to upload maybe too high resolution?
Any way the snorkle is all welded up and sanded flush ready for powdercoat so it looks like one piece
This week the truck got a wof and a fresh windscreen altho it leaks new glass always looks good
Last night I started on the rock sliders mainly to be able to fabricate some scrub bars to cover the tyres as the beadlocks have a bit of offset
Still waiting for the snorkle to come back and the pod filter to arrive
Once I do the sliders I will get into replacing the injectors and tickleup the injector pump a bit I have a aggressive boost pin to fit to the compensator as well
