afaik injection pumps are not great. tend to wear out quick.
not much selection of turbo's if you want to get a lot of power out of it.

plenty of info on the patrol forums about them. a few have even bothered to mod them rather than ripping it out and fitting a td42 in there.

Dude in the Waikato club wheels his hard. Dedicated bush hack. Its been beaten to death and from the last lot of photos i saw, its still hanging in there.

The main crazy thing it does is turn off and not start again as soon as the temp gets to the overheating point.

I reckon they are worth a go for the right money, a much more high tec motor than the old TD42. :D :D

Excessive heat can kill them they could do with a bigger radiator. Just the design of the head traps alot of heat.

An intercooler and a proper tune to keep the egts down will save it if turbo charging... or shove a skyline engine in there... same block casting so bellhousing and mounts all the same.
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.

Here the heads seem to be a regular casualty of the heat, a mate had one,was surprised at the torque of my TD in comparison,

Cheers ONC

rd28 engine ain't no torque monster, but the rest of the package will be worth having if its cheap enough and an engine swap later is of interest to the chap.
gearbox is the smaller fs5r30a same as gtr's and qd32 navaras etc,
so engine choices could be an rb (petrol), qd32, bd30 or even a td27 with that trans,
if he wants torque for towing etc a td42 powered truck is a better option but would require the bigger fs5r50a/b trans and a cert etc
diffs will be the fabled 4.6 : 1 ratio
transfer case is the same tx12a
problems are only a problem if you not willing to learn how to find solutions

I had the GU shape shorty and found it extremely sluggish with an auto behind it, both on and off road. The later 2.8 had problems with the fuel pump wearing, so would suffer from hot start issues. Easy fix is a sleeve from Nissan, think it was about $40. Would have been interested to try another, or manual to see if mine was just low on power. New owner chipped it and said it made quite a difference
