Postby dangerous » Wed Sep 05, 2018 8:35 pm

just wired up a boost gauge and its pushing bout 8psi, it runs well but was expecting 12ish... whats a safe recommendation people... what do others run their PSI boost at?

the engine will handle +50psi if you want.
the big thing is how much power do you want, what fueling can you do and what will the turbo handle.
there is limits depending on what fuel pump you have.
simplest way is to go buy one of the pump and turbo kits. even a mild one will run 20+ psi with fuel to suit.
keep in mind that also depends on what intercooler, exhaust, air filter etc you have.

for really basic setups there is the 15psi setups for the blacktop motors as they are weaker than the silver top.

hang on... how can a black top be weaker.. its a factory turbo engine, ie... lower compresion, stronger rods etc... ya got me there???

re pump... its a reconed TD27T pump with 1/4 turn richer...

50psi... surley that blow the head clean off?

black top is the later atmo td42 before the turbo version came out. i'm not up on what years etc.
silver is fairly strong, black top got lighter pistons and rods, then the turbo model got the strongest setup of them.

50psi won't do much to it, you could run 100psi if you wanted. wouldn't make it any more powerful.
power is made by fuel, you just need to supply enough air to be able to burn it well and to aid cooling and match the injection pumps timing.

td27t pump ?? you mean td42t pump or it has the plunger out of a td27 pump?

ahhh... yeah iv just had it rebuilt as it lost pressure now the place that did the job said it had TD27T printed on the pump... the difference being the turbo pump has an extra boost pressure thing on it... how much is TD27 I dont know cos bit tricky feeding a 6 pot with 4 lines...

Silvertop running 25psi+ for years. No problems with boost... problems when sucking rocks & dirt into it tho
