Took the Safari into Macetown, then Skippers and home (to Invercargill) via the Nevis. All very low key and only needed 4wd for one very short stretch of mud on the Nevis. Did just over 360 km on 40 litres of diesel so pretty pleased with that - might not be quite as good with 33" muds though!

Friday, came through the Mackley from Murchison to Denniston with Smurf, meeting Nuts partway through. Side trip to Mt Frederick - fantastic rocky track. And finally saw some bush welding in action...
Saturday, went through Tailings with Smurf and Nuts. Flag and Jeff along for the ride too. Great track! Flexed the new winch out good and proper. Mud, rocks, hills, gorse, bush, creeks and two Argos for entertainment. Great day out with great company. Thanks!
Sunday, through to Reefton.
Monday. (As I write this) planning to go up Petrol Hill and on through to Big River.

We will be back to Westport again sometime - stupid amount of fun.

Well, had a fairly productive weekend... :)

Received my new Soft top door windows from the states...
NZD$45 shipping for a big box... and here within 6 days...
cut the old ones off the frames... and install the new ones
its amazing having clear windows again... and they have much stronger zips... that work... :)

Ordered the parts for my Rear Disc Brake Conversion... (Drums suck)
hopefully start the install next weekend...

Got an XJ steering box from a guy on trademe to replace my leaking unit.
got that in fairly hassle free.
only to find the replacement units leaks just as bad...
he did assure me that it didnt leak... but it should have rung alarm bells when i picked it up, and it was super clean...
Now, he wont return my TXTs or take my calls...

I have since ordered a seal kit from the States... i will try that myself...

non 4wd...
Rewired my VDSL connection as the Chorus guy refused to terminate it in the garage where the server is...
And went to Eninem... :) It rocked

What have you ordered/are using for this. A kit or bits to make it work?

And everyone thinks you are away on a holiday

Lots of driving is never a holiday

The sunday session is still lots of fun though ;-)

Im doing this...
http://jeep-xj.info/HowtoBArearBrakes1.htm

a guy (i dont know) had the part of a kit left over from his businesses change in direction... but it had the parts i wanted... the spacer... :)
so i can use this as a template...

i have ordered 4 second hand BA Rear hubs to make 2 complete kits...
a mate and i will tackle it this weekend... or next...

Just hope i don't need a proportioning valve...

Tailings Photos:

Smurf in the creek

Nuts in mud

Nuts going down. Actually, this was a bloody steep downhill and lumpy as...
Image

... as you can see from a SWB doing the same hill
Image

Nuts starting to winch - note he has a bent rear trailing arm and fast leaking rear tyre at this point. Getting traction became impossible.
Image

Us winching, about 3/4 of the way up.
Image

Smurf winching the last step.
Image

And we were followed by these guys - two Argos. Basically 6 wheel ice chests with skid steer. They plonked the girl in the drivers seat with a 3 second instruction on how to drive it, then manhandled it up the hill. Same for the second one. She ran over two of them - they had the tyres marks on their legs and back to prove it.

Unfortunately the photos don't show that down hill as it really is.

I went down there a couple years ago and it is pretty hairy going down, but watched a video of me going down and it made it look like a walk in the park.
