Hit up Klem at Performance mechanical on Miro street. He's a local 4wd legend, couple of his staff wheel as well.
Pureora has/had some great tracks. Google Kakaho road on google maps. When you zoom in the first on the left that they call "forestry road" is actually called Bog Inn road and there used to be heaps of track of there to play in. I'm told it's a bit different these days though. (I don't live in Taupo any more)
If you want call my mate Benny who lives up there (has this truck viewtopic.php?f=18&t=35129&p=399566&hilit=mwb+safari#p399566) his number is 027 406 3686. If you have a half capable truck and are not a cock he'll be happy to head out with you. He knows Pureora pretty well, pretty busy dude these days though.
Join the local club. They do an annual trip out to Minginui which is a farken awesome place to wheel. Or head out there with a mate. It's past Murapara so you are in the wops out there.

Probably join the club is the first step then. They are (were?) a bunch of old dudes but there is some pretty good guys among them.

Re: New to Taupo any 4x4 tracks around?
Hey guys sorry for digging up an old thread but my plans for this week have changed due to lockdown in Hamilton so we will be spending a few extra days in and around Taupo and Tokoroa at Yoricks place and the thought occurred we are in a 4wd why not use it don't want anything to hardcore as i only have ATs and i have to drive it back to Wellington afterwards
my 4wd is not a truck
