most of the ones with low k's have just had disconnected speedo's i'd be more worried about how it runs, leak down test results and how it sounds than whats on the clock.
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level then beat you with experiance!

Hard to tell really. It depends on how it has been maintained. From what I understand a lot of the 2.8s had issues with big end bearings and most would have had them replaced but unless it has only had a couple of owners its hard to tell.

Also the valve seats start to get pretty worn up in the higher ks. This will mean that the valves won't quite close properly unless the shims have been replaced with thinner ones (worse on exhaust valves). There is no rattle but the truck will be down on power a bit. Once they get really high in the ks you start to get to the limit of how thin you can make the shims and then really need to get the head done which is about $1000 from what I have seen.

Other than that you will just get general ageing which a compression test should show.

My 2c

Cheers,
Pete

As said before some of the lower km trucks may have been disconected, but also consider that they may have been owned by someone like me (high country farmer) and have spent 90% of their life in low 1st or second. This means a truck like this done 150'000km has had an engine do 300+ hard kms if compared to a road going truck.
We recently sold two work lux's 1 2.8 and 1 3.0 and both had only done 100-150 but were getting very tired, 3.0 was actually on second motor due to oil pressure issues early on so had only done 80k on clock but was hard to start, smoked and was down on power.
Now everyone will jump on here and say rough buggers not maintaining gear, but these were well lokked after and serviced by the local dealership.
So look at condition not km's! especially with lux's as they will handle a lot of abuse and look good.
