Ford D series Diesel

Postby tuckertrucker » Sun Sep 15, 2019 6:06 pm

Evening all,

Got a Ford D series engine (2725E Model). Its a 6.2L inline 6 NA.

Got a miss in it, seems to be #6 isn't firing. Engine note and RPM changes dramatically when cracking 1-5 injectors but no change when cracking 6. Also noticed that there is zero fuel running through the return line. The #6 Injector is the last injector in the return line before the fuel tank.

The engine has been running like this without any other hiccups for atleast the last 500hrs (4-5 yrs) for the previous owner. Aside from this, there are no other issues.

Any ideas on what would cause both an injector to not fire, and a lack of fuel in the return hose?

Have you cracked the line at #5 to see if theres a blockage?
Seems obvious start point.
Also see if swapping the #6 injector for the #2 unit. This should show up whether its a electrical or fuel issue or if the injector unit is faulty.

Just a thought...

You mean crack the return line at #5?

Its an old mechanical diesel so no electronics there, and not common rail. So only common line between the two is the overflow rail that runs along all 6 injectors. Have cracked the HP line on all 6 and theres plenty of fuel at each, no overflow from any in the return line, and #6 just not seeming to fire at all.

Will try swapping the injectors out tomorrow. Beginning to presume it is a faulty injector
