i have a carter 4070 fuel pump as a lift pump.
its now giving a ticking noise and sounds like it going slow.
pulled it out and it runs fine dry and no dirt etc in it.
any known problems with these pumps?
any one got a diagram of its insides?
the pump side looks basic, not even a regulator in it. but the motor side looks like its crimped on which makes it difficult to check the motor.

Re: carter p4070 fuel pump
I ran one of them as a lift pump too, was that damm noisey you could hear it over the engine running from outside the truck, took it back and changed to a heaps quiter inline pump.

update:
did some testing. pumps loosing pressure when hot. 8 psi in the morning, 10 min of driving and down to 1 psi. strangely enough 1 psi consistently even at full rpm.
removed pump. found they do have a built in bypass. it goes from bottom of inlet through motor side and back to outlet. my guess is the bypass is leaking which is not fixable as the motor side is crimped onto the pump body.
however i will pull it apart one day and check it out.
a different pump is on the way, hopefully one that is much quieter.
