Vh41 coils and igniters, removal and fit newer coils

Postby 44jetboat » Sun Mar 08, 2015 12:05 pm

Hi guys I got a vh41 in my jet boat. Want to remove coils and igniters for newer coils with built in igniters. So if a igniter goes I don't lose 4 cyc just 1. Also coils getting on now motor is 20+ years old . I

My question is will the microtech be ok with this and who would you recommend wiring up in Canterbury

Keen to here the answer to this as I am trying to suss similar stuff for me vh45.

What igniters are you planning to use?

Not sure on Microtech, but from what I can tell my Link G3 will happily run the separate ignitors but I will have to run a wasted spark system as the G3 that I have only has 4 (or 6?) separate ignition channels. Maybe that helps?

A quick look on the microtech site and it looks like they only have 4 or 6 ignition channels so would have to be wasted spark, I guess it should work, it does with the megasquirt

Edit, looks like it will here is the LS1 ignition wiring diagram, obviously the actual wiring will depend on the exact coils/ignitors and there may also need to be a setting change in the ecu (in the MS2 it is going high or going low), it may pay to check with microtech to make sure this can be changed or if the coil packs you want to use are compatible with how it is configured now

Yeah goes fine onthe micro tech. It is running wasted spark I have since found out. It is running 4 ignition drives. Reason for all this is boat shut down mid corner on me and blew me up the rocks. Boat a bit of a mess now but it is insured. Going through all electrical things now and upgrading were I can.

These are the coils I'm looking at http://www.ebay.com/itm/390510912900?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

They are rated at 30 kv where the Nissan ones are 21kv.

These have built in igniters so no need for the ptu. Just trying to get measurements off them to make sure they will fit the head ok.

Have found a guy to wire up so will keep updated

Any joy confirming measurements and weather they can be made to fit?

I'm running rb25det coilpack in my vh45. Running wasted spark direct from autronic cdi so no ignitor at all. Coils are actually the same as vh45 just with different silicone. Tested silicone and swapped the good ones.

So how did these ignitors go? All installed and being thrashed by now I assume?

Do these coils fit underneath the covers that the factory ones go under?
