HOLDEN AUTO BOXES QUERY

Have a 4x4 buggy with holden vp motor and gearbox married to a 40 series landcruiser transfer box.
Want to change the transfer box to a bighorn, I've heard some of the later auto boxes are shorter which will suit me as the bighorn box needs more space then the 40 series landcruiser. Anyone know which commodores had the shorter boxes and if they will bolt straight onto a vp motor ?
