so i was thinking of rear recovery points on my hilux. what im thinking is that the tow bar i have if 80x12 sides the plan is to do something like this drill and tap into the plate then bolt it onto the side. my plan is to use 90x12
and this is my draw bar and the the eye part will sit just bellow the end of the side
now what are peoples thoughts of this
if you were to come across me in the wops and i had these would you trust them?
cheers mack

Re: rear recovery point?
Looks alright to me
Re: rear recovery point?
my to patterns I made up
sits about 80mm bellow the towbars horrozontal
or
sits flush with end of towbar and is more level with the chassis
any of you more engineering minded people able to tell me which one would be the more appropriate to run with? will be using 90x12 plate to make them and use 4x12mm high tensile bolts taped into the 12 mm towbar

Re: rear recovery point?
Get rid of that tow bar tongue so you won't get stuck on it, It iis very low and will catch on all sorts of things and get you hung up.
Your first picture has your recovery point very low and it will also get caught on banks rocks etc. and potentially get you stuck.
If I was you I'd get your hooks/recovery points as level with the chassis as possible

Re: rear recovery point?
I would get rated hooks and attach to the chassis rail.. then nothing can go wrong..its the best place to attach..
Re: rear recovery point?
only way i could have hooks mounted on the chassis and be able to strup of the would be buy cutting into the well deck to allow strup out tho only way is to mount on side of towbar to get bellow deck
Re: rear recovery point?
The only suggestions I could make would be to radius off the internal angle on your second template and I'd use high tensile bolts, heavy duty washers and good nylocs to mount it rather than bolting into tapped holes.
Re: rear recovery point?
I'd use nuts and bolts too, it will be a whole heap easier to get off again than if you tapped the towbar.
