Howat Engineering here in Welly is currently charging $130 per rim I think (you supply rims)
and you could check out 4wdbits.co.nz as a comparison of costs as well

What sort of use are they going to get? I only ask as the trials guys really use their beadlocks, but if you are club trucking or doing coast type stuff do you really need them?
I only say this as I run 39.5" tyres on 8" rims at 4-10 psi and have never lost a tyre off a rim. If you are going to do it though why not look at the internal air bag type units, I know H20LVR has them on his rig and I am sure others do as well, and at least they actually push on the tyre bead on both side of the rim.
My 2c anyway, I am sure plenty will disagree, but I don't care

I agree with this. Mechanical beadlocks hold the outside bead on but not the inner bead and have to be certified for use onroad (correct me if I am wrong) whereas the internals dont, its just a small tube (okay its a bit more complicated than that but its still a tube.) and if you stuff a rim, its easy to fit in the next one (if you stay the same size that is).

Re: Bead Lockers in CHCH
never had a set of bead lockers myself but have had mates with them, from what i have seen they are bloody near impossible to balance and you wouldn't want to drive them on the road much faster than about 50km/h for those reasons i have decided to avoid them and go for those "in tyre" lockers as above. At this point I have never bothered and i have never knocked a tyre off the bead, only a matter of time i guess but i always run between 10-15 psi on my simexs and don;t seem to have problems so at this stage i have decided to just carry a spare and take my chances.
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level then beat you with experiance!
Re: Bead Lockers in CHCH
what kinda ringding garage did your mates ones? never had problems with balancing NI ones
you wont ever knock a tyre off running 10psi. Running decent pressures is when you actually need em. For most wheelers I really wouldnt bother with beadlocks. Just a set of tubes will do fine
