Ive been told there is an area at the waimak where rfles are allowed (In general its shot gun only)

Im wanting to sight in a rifle at 200 meters without going all the way to Lake Lyndon.

Can anyone enlighten me if this is the case please and tell me where abouts.

Cheers

Ken

Why don't you use a rifle range? I have come around a corner down at the waimak and a bunch of guys were pointing a 22 down the track at targets. Pissed me off, as far as I know it's not a DOC area so no firearms should be shot.

NZDA have a 200m range.
Open to the public every 2nd Sat of the month.
$20 fee for non members.

Or better still, join the NZDA and get regular access to the range, regular organised hunts, plus other great benefits.

I need either 150m or 200 which is longer than most ranges, didnt know what NZDA was plus I need to do it tomorrow before hunting monday.

We will just head to the range at Lyndon.

Yes we know rifles arent allowed in most areas of the waimak but have been lead to belive there is an area for them, just unsure where, hence why I asked.

And its a little bigger than a 22.

To get to the Lyndon range, head in past the lake. You'll get to a long flat the suddenly drops off to the right. As the road hooks back to the left there is a track (on the coleridge side of the stream). This leads you down into the 'river bed' of the valley. As you head up the valley there are some white steal plates on the r/h side. I cant remember distances. these are shot at from a plato up to the left. There is/was a sand bag up there. You have to either walk up here from the river bed, or down from the other side (cant give directions to here)

You used to be able to cross the field strip (to the left of the long straight before dropping down to the right is a gate) and access a shot range here (300m from top of hill to end of clearing) but the river had washed out part of the track when I was there last, maybe accessable now.

A suitable 4x4 is required for both routes.

Yeah that sounds good. I have some toys that need a bit of work, my 4x4 is not going at the moment but will borrow one for a mish up there. I usually use the nzda range but it can be slow and tedious at times.
