I asked the same thing on the hunting forum and got a resounding "waste of cash" response. So I never bought one.

You can get the same accuracy by lining up the scope and looking down the bore at the same point. Then start at the range at 50m

I got a bushnell one I find it useful. Yeah you can eye down the bore but I find it more accurate using the bore sighter. Saves ammo especially if you have a few guns and always tinkering. I found it handy sighting in the laser dot on the shotgun.
GU patrol 35s ect.

Handy if you are shooting a semi or have a high cheek rest that blocks your line of sight thru the barrel.
You can buy one that is specific for your caliber and chamber inside the firearm they are good for getting you on paper for 50m.
The ones that are aligned from the muzzle but that relies partly on how concentric the crown is to the bore.
sometimes cheap rifles the bore is not concentric to the OD of the barrel!

My 2c.

I bought a cheap one from Tard-Me and it was crap. It was so poorly made that every time you removed and replaced it in the chamber, the dot appeared in a different place! When insterted you could put your finger on the back and actually wiggle it in the chamber.
My rifle is not shot out, the chamber and bore are fine and it shoots 3 inch groups at 200m.
I sent it back and got my money refunded.

you can go and spend some money on a flash laser that does the same as the free eye-ometer that's been used successfully for bore sighting for as long as they have been making firearms :D
