Time for a new ORE Forum banner?

Postby Lincoln » Fri Oct 10, 2008 4:21 pm

Hey all,

What do you think about people posting some ideas for a new Off Road Express forum banner? I've been playing with a couple of ideas while I'm bored at work! I've totally butchered a couple of people's photographs to make these but I know who those people are so I'll ask permission before they ever get used for proper site stuff!

1. Image

2. Image

Below added 10:15pm 10/10/08 Yeah I know this one's the most recent so it should be at the bottom but I've screwed up the numbering system. Most of the awesome photos in this one are by LT-61 (think that's right!)

3. Image

Below added 7:15pm 10/10/08 (I've decided I'm not very good at montages!)

4. Image

5. Image

Below added 8:15pm 10/10/08 (getting better at the montages?)

6. Image

7. Image

Below added 9:15pm 10/10/08 - think that's enough for now! Getting a bit arty with this one. Must be the beer.

8. Image

Feel free to submit some more and then maybe we can vote on them or something?
Update: If you wanna see the larger ones of these, some of them are at http://www.photobucket.com/orebanners
Another update: I just increased the size of the banners here so they're a bit clearer.

Must be a Picasa thing. I'll try photo bucket instead. 2 minutes! ... is that it? Man the internet goes slow when you need it!

Cheers madaz. This is like 3 minutes work so I might have a play around when I get home and get access to my own photos! I reckon something would look smart with a truck riding over the text or something.

The sandy pic is from BrentC and the river pic is from NJV8. I just cropped, adjusted and put the text on :)

What about a banner that has three pics in it, soft stuff like the sand, good deep water crossing (deeper then the top one :D ) and some of that hard core Westcoast stuff :D :D :D . Gives good cross section of the site maybe :?:

does anyone have a pic of a gruop of trucks

or can someone merge trucks from all over NZ into one long wide pic suitable for a banner

that would look cool, especially if it was a selection of different types of vehicles

Madaz you're a legend. There's some good pics on that site. I'll have a look through. I'm at home with a beer now so I can work harder!

Albundy, good idea. I'll figure out some kind of montage option as well.

I'll just keep editting the first post with them so they're all in the same place.

You can set the forum up so that you can have a few banners and each time you come to the site or load a page on it, it changes to a different one. Saves having to pic just one picture.

Yeah that'd be pretty cool. I'd just like to add that this hasn't been endorsed by forum admins and creators yet! I'm just kinda making stuff up as I go!

Cheers. I've added another montage and then another one that's more text focused. I think I'm edging towards the montage with the spacing rather than the blended-in montage.

Might try a few more of them. Still half an hour before the fiance gets home and tells me to stop messing around with photos

Thanks nzhunter. Might be worth saying "1" and "8" though as I keep adding them to the same post (post 1) so that they're all in the same place. Tomorrow, the bottom one could well be embarrassingly bad and you wouldn't want to be associated with it

I'm quite into 3 and 8 at the moment ... but 8 might be getting a bit too arty for the masses! I should try and find another river crossing one as a few people seem to be into 1.

Not tonight though! Time to hit the sack. I might actually go play with the real thing tomorrow instead (by that I mean the hilux!)

P.s. I've just added a link to the originals so you can see the larger banners as well (at full size to match the current ORE banner): http://www.photobucket.com/orebanners

Is it worth inserting "New Zealand" before 4wd in the banner. I know from my own web searches that it get frustrating trying to figure out where a site is located. I know the web address has .co.nz, but that isn't always clear to overseas users where that country is. Just a thought. Oh, keep up the good ideas. some of those are gold.

hahahahha this is funny and uncanny, i was just talking to curly today at deadwoods about changing the banner and asked if he had some photos and was saying thats the reason i was taking pics to make a new one. But since youve done such and good job on them i dont need to, ill just get on and upgrade and finish the site :D :D I'll most likely use about 5 and rotate them.
