I've done a few musters for tailing and shearing blah blah when i was a farm hand way back. I worked in the Leamington Valley for Koromiko Farm n Mendip Hills sheep station. Biggest station was Mendip Hills. 35,000 acres.
The shearers n rowsy used to earn their coin that's for real.

Heard lots of wild and woolly stories about Mendip Hills Station, the ex grew up there. lol
Would have been a good place to muster.

The poor shearer survived, just lol.
He did it hard as he hadn't done any shearing for 25 years. Made him take his time, he made it with a bit of help.

He was laid off from up the hill and decided to buy a shearing plant to do all the lifestyle blocks around about.
He should have trialled it first though.

He said he will be back ,
but wouldn't mind if I got rid of a ram or two.
ps. That's why I didn't blade shear this year

So your ex would know the Blacks then?
I worked there in 1979-80.
What is her name?
The only woman I remember that worked there were cooks.

Rams would have to be the hardest things to deal with in the shearing shed?
I'll never forget having to deal to one that had cancer. I had to get it ready for dog tucker. Dealing with that ram was the hardest kill I've ever done.

Mendip Hills Station is an amazing place. I've flown over parts of it since. From the air you get a real idea just how big it is.
I love that country. Now that's a REAL high country station.

If you mean Melville and Betty Black, yes we did.
Sadly to say they have both passed away.
They were our neighbours when they shifted to Burnham.

We live in an amazing country and as you say it is not until you are flying above that you really appreciate how large some of the stations are.
High country Stations are a world of their own.

It was more than the shearer's back that I was worried about.
Had to help hold a couple for him and I can still jump the yard fence when I need too ha ha

His lady was a bit tired by the end of the day too,
although she was able to pick up and throw the fleece pretty good after a few pointers.

Trying to get someone to help with culling some rams,
I'm ok once they are hanging from a hook lol

We used to run Coast to Coasts across Mendip from the "Whales back" station on the Inland Kaikoura Rd.

A good through route to the Conway Flats Via the track over Mt Wilson

If anyone brought the Press today you'll know they did article on New Zealand's biggest farm.
Of course, it was on the legendary, "Molesworth Station" in North Canterbury or Marlborough. All 180,000 hectares of it.
I would guess lots of people have driven through or past it. The High country there is simply breath taking for me.

Agree totally with you, drove through it very quickly a couple of years ago on the way north from my mother's place at Gore Bay to the ferry.
Went back the following year with a couple of vehicles and camped at the NOrth End and then took a whole day to drive through on the way to Hanmer. Big, breathtaking country, very special place.
