It's only about 10 minutes from Reefton to the turn off, then a short run up a metalled road.

A bunch from the ChCh Suzuki 4wd club came up for a look and by the time we'd been round the mine, over into the Waitahu and back to Reefton, we'd only been out about 3 hrs.

Unfortunately most of the big gear has been moved down south for another contract job, there's only a handful of Volvo 40 tonners and two or three smaller diggers on site now (22, 52 & 87 tonners) until the coal price picks up. The mine site itself is interesting though, particularly if you are interested in geology.

Ineil, I havn't confirmed making Refton/Daniels trip yet, but I'd be keen. A chance to look at something usually not accessable sounds good

My POS needs a new c&p, but as we have just manged to break two tracks today on two different machines, the resulting (large) bill puts pay to any toy money being spent, Bugga.
Was kinda looking forward to telling lots of lies and listening to heap's of shit in amongst some good wheeling and a good bunch of GC's
Aw well, The coast isn't going anywhere, and as long as I keep breathing I'm sure another trip will come up soon enough

look at the open-cast Echo coal mine here? We could continue over through the (inactive) Island Block mine site and down into the Waitahu river, cross over and come out via the Montgomery's hut track.

Good, becuase I've done enough recovering lately getting Rude out after he has been thru his cv breaking phase, in fact I'm not sure he's out of it yet as he is ordering the tuff stuff now. He shouldn't be following the nissan I guess Next it will be his diffs.

Week to go, feet are as itchy as to get going. Finish work and on leave from 0700 on sunday morning, state of origin wednesday nite (QLD to win of course) and fly on Thursday. Time between now and then to get the liver into shape I suppose. What are our final numbers then?

I think we are looking at arriving mid arvo. We'll settle into the nurses quarters then down to the pub for tea and some speights (miss me speights). Not sure of name of pub but its the last on the left heading down main drag of town. The trips won't get posted until after the event fella, that's the way we tend to work, less shit from all the knowitalls that way.

That's interesting considering that 4wdriving kept the town alive for many years. Now the gold and coal is flowing again they don't need us anymore. Maybe it's the muppetts yet again stuffing it all up for us. We'll see how we go anyhow's. I have always found the locals in reefton very obliging and helpful in the past.

North Canty club spent a few days there recently...no dramas whatsoever.
From what accounts i've heard it's the locals that are running amok at the DOC hut and land. Make sure you fellas have a good trip!!
