Not been down for age. We have talked of heading in for a trip too.
If you come up with a plan, Myself and a couple of others could be keen to tag along

Went up 3 weeks ago. It's in the best condition I've seen it for years right now. The miners have graded the track to just past the grey bog which is probably halfway up. All the difficult stuff at the start is gone and barely reconisable now. However it's still a good drive and worth a visit. The boulder garden near the top is the only real challenge now.

Oh wow, what are the minors doing? How far, what’s going on etc. to many questions. What about the gorse? Is the slick huge clay ruts all gone???

The miners only had an exploration permit and when we went up last year they had a couple of big excavators and a skid mounted screen up there just before grey bog. They apparently left a few weeks before our most recent visit ( mentioned above). Not sure if they will apply for or if they have been granted a actual mining permit yet.

They leveled the whole grey bog area and it is good at moment but time will tell where the water pools long term.

We got rid of most of the gorse about 2 years or so ago and the miners did the rest. There is not much hanging over the track now. We also put in a culvert lined with conveyor belt 2 years ago just above the badly washed out section 3/4 of the way up and it seems to be working well with no further deterioration there.

All the awesome rutted clay sections at the start are gone includind the awkward washed out culvert near the start but again, time will tell how long it lasts.
