WOF with different tread on same axel?

Post by Fmxmatt »

Hey All

Bit new to the whole 4WD thing, and after managing to bugger one of my 31's in the weekend, i'm in a bit of a delemma.

Is it legal to have 2 different tyres on 1 axel? Obviously they'd be the same size tyre, but may be a different brand/tread pattern. If possible I'd like to be able to get a 2nd hand tyre to replace the one thats stuffed, but dont wanna bugger round with that if I'll need to replace 2 tyres, in which case I guess i'll have to look for new ones?

On another note along the same lines, anyone in CHC selling 1 or 2 31x10.5x15 mud tyres? :)

Cheers

It depends where you go, officialy I have been pulled up for it (it was my spare like you) and the other was not with the truck getting repaired (Nail).

but I did get a warrant one other time like that (on a car), so it depends on who looks and how close.

Edit to add:

The WOF was failed because "it could have different handleing or brakeing characteristic's" I he marked both rear tyres but had acceptable tread depth and used the note's

Most vehicles are required by law to have tyres of the same size and construction on any one axle (front and rear)
