33s or 35s?

Post by COMILUX »

hey guys, looking at buying tyres. what im trying to decide is what size tyres to go for.
ive got a 87 D-CAB with a holden 3.8 convertion, 50mm spring lift, 31" muds.
i cant decide between 33s and 35s.
will 35s fit ok? ive got a 50mm body lift to fit - will this be enough?
are there any other positives and negatives between the two i should consider?
has anyone got any photos of a double cab on 33s and one on 35s they can post?

thanks
Nick

id say 35s, but i say they wont fit. had 33s on my ln106 with 50mm suspension lift and 50mm bodylift, and the rubbed at full lock and articulation. could move the front diff foward 50mm and then with a massaging device (hammer) you mite be able to fit 35s

talked to 4wd upgrades yesterday and they recon they can move my diff forward for 400+ gst including lengthening driveshaft ect and with that and my body lift and taking to my front bumper with an angle grinder i should fit 35s.

do you have a pic of it on 33s with that lift? where were they rubbing? if you had moved the diff forward would that have stoped it?

its quite easy to move to move the front diff foward, get a pair of rear springs for the hilux and put them up front, bolt straight in, then make the torque rod longer? (maybe its shorter) then get the drive shaft lengthend or get a rear drive shaft chopped down. only thing is that the shock mounts will be out then but they still work

rear springs in the front moves your diff forward 40-50 mm, a shortened drag-link (With ball joint mod), shortened drag link and you are away. May need lengthened drive shaft or drive shaft spacer too though.
I have this in my LN60 surf with longer shackles and a 50mm body lift. HEAPS of room for the 35s

All engineering work, threading drag link and modifying J arm for ball joint was done by local engineer. I shortened the drag link and re-welded it. I also had to alter it to clear the 5M engine mount.
Then I fitted everything myself. Its a very simple job.
Talk to Steve, (Supralux) He will be able to help you out with the mods and he is in ChCh too.
He has done the mod a few times.

I will be removing my modified drag link and J arm in the new year as I am changing to Cross over steering. I can post some pics if you want so you can how it works.
